I have to confess that I have never heard of the "Pohutuawa tree. It is quite beautiful.. You are talking about spring coming on strong in New Zealand but here in Heppner Oregon we have about 8 inches of snow on the ground and as I write this it is now 2 degrees f. and is supposed to fall at least one more degrees. For those of you who might not be familiar with Fahrenheit, 32 degree is equal to zero degrees centigrade.so it is quite cold here.. I think it will be hot chocolate and warm cinnamon roles freesh out of the oven for breakfast tomorrow

Very lovely tree.  Like Dick, had never heard of it before.  Also cold here, MINUS 32 degrees celsius (-40F = -40 C) without the windchill but only about 4 inches of snow on the ground.  Thanks for the pic to dream of warm places with.

Nice colorful tree Rob, how long will it be in bloom like this?

Len

They bloom between November and January Len.  An early bloom is supposed to predict a long hot summer.

Ouch Jeff,

I can't even begin to imagine what -32C must feel like.  That is seriously cold!

After a wet Spring, Summer is kicking into gear here in New Zealand.  I couldn't help but share this picture of a Pohutukawa in bloom taken this morning.

I hope you like it,

Absolutely beautiful Rob. A Christmas tree that Mother Nature has predecorated for you. Dull, damp,6 C, not to mention miserable here in the South West of Scotland. Have a great Christmas with the family Rob. :D  :D  :D  :D .

Nice trees. Reminds me of our crapemyrtle.

I have never heard of the Crapemyrtle Dan so I Googled it.  That is also a pretty tree.  It turns out Pohutukawa is from the Myrtle family too.

Nice looking tree Rob. Do you plan on decorating it with hand made ornaments?

Nice idea Dan but they grow up to 82 feet tall.  I don't think I have enough ornaments!

Here is another picture I took last year of another Pohutukawa tree.

Those are beautiful Rob.  Interesting that it is also from the "Myrtle" family like the Crepe Myrtles like we have here.  I was feeling cold around here with the "arctic" winds coming down from Canada UNTIL i read from my Canadian friends and Dick out in the NW area of the US of Oregon.  Now my presently 30 degrees with no snow is making me feel much warmer then I was before.  ;)  All prospective isn't it.  I was just thinking that a couple more days and we will have hit the shortest day of the year and headed toward longer days and warmer weather - hoping for an early spring!  ;)
