Paul hd Posted January 5, 2017 Report Posted January 5, 2017 Hi All, This is a piece of Pau Amarello (Yellow Heart). I got this given to me with some other wood when I bought my first lathe. I need more practice and a few better tools but it was OK. MTCowpoke22 and Lucky2 2 Quote

Lucky2 Posted January 6, 2017 Report Posted January 6, 2017 Good video Paul, thanks for sharing it with us. I think you got a very nice looking bowl out of that piece of wood, and the finish is near perfect to look at. I see a blue strap on the ways of your lathe, is it strapped down? What model of lathe do you own, and what do you think of it? I'm considering purchasing a new one, I just haven't decided on which brand. And, I'll have to get rid of at least two of the ones I already own, or so I've been told. Len Paul hd 1 Quote

I will eventually get around to using the bolt holes but I will need to make up some plates, for now the straps do a good job. The lathe is a Nova Comet 2. When my Old huge Myford Mystro started to make some noises I decided to get a new lathe but wanted something much smaller. I did a bit of research and it came down to two lathes the other being the Jet 1014vs I decided on the Comet as it had Reverse, it was slightly heavier and it came with a chuck and at the time they were the same price. If needed you can buy a bolt on grinder attachment. For pens and small bowls like the one above it is great. If you wanted to turn a log that was 10 inch in diameter and 15 inches long then I would say to go bigger. If you need any more info do not hesitate to ask. I had another go at turning a bowl yesterday. The first bit of wood was a nightmare, it was so dusty I decided to give up on that and try another piece of wood which turned out to be a bit of Yew. I need to concentrate more on my finishing cuts. Lucky2 1 Quote
