Dan Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 I remember calling for help with Windows several years ago. Honest to God, the Indian-sounding voice on the other end said, "My name is Abraham Lincoln." I had a good laugh! Quote
worbler Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 So what is it that you want to know about windows 10 Danny? It really isn't all that different to 7, except maybe the behind the scenes stuff. You can create a God Mode folder, which is simply access to the older way of doing things. Accessing the control panel and other features in 10 is not as straight forward as we would like. To create the God Mode folder, right click on your desktop and create a new folder. Name the new folder: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} and hit enter. Quote

worbler Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 Not sure if there is or not. Just search for what you want to know and go with that. Even though I'm fairly comfortable using a computer I still do the occasional search if I'm unsure. It's really only going to be confusing to you if you allow it to be. The start menu is basically the same, it's just a little different. Use the God folder if you want to control the computer the way you did in 7. When you open it, type in the search area at the top right what it is you want. Another trick is to right click the Start menu icon and access a different list of commands. Quote

ike Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 I got windows 10 when it was a free download. I didn't have any big problems with it and when I did i called Best Buy geek squad they helped me out. I get a contract with therm for $100 per year and they help you and take care of your computer , all you then pay is for parts I take it in twice a year and have them clean it up for me, some times they keep it for a couple of days but mostly they do it right there. When you are not too bright on the computer it is a god but. IKE Quote
courdorygirl Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 Be glad you missed Windows 8, it was terrible. Basically, everything that was in your start bar is now in that windows icon at the bottom left of your screen now. I pin things I use regularly to my task bar (calculator, file explorer, OpenOffice and Firefox) just right click on the icon or on the program and click "pin to taskbar". If you need help finding a file just start typing what you're looking for into Cortana'a search bar. It will either give you the file location or an app that will work. Pretty user friendly once you get used to it. Phantom Scroller 1 Quote
worbler Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 Windows 8 could be tricked into thinking it was Windows 7, sort of. All you have to do is install Classic Shell and tell it what previous version of Windows you would like it to behave like. I think the options were 7, Vista and XP. Windows 8 was fine, it was 8.1 that caused problems for me. It even crashed my computer and I had to resort to Ubuntu for a while until I got another computer with Windows 7 and then upgraded to the free Windows 10. All good now. Quote
