Clayton717 Posted March 3, 2017 Report Posted March 3, 2017 Been doing a little turning. I made this bowl blank from acrylic (resin) and sticks I picked up from the yard. It's a little over 2" tall 7" diameter. 125 CSL, Rob and Lucky2 3 Quote
Scrappile Posted March 3, 2017 Report Posted March 3, 2017 Now that is pretty darn cool! When I was doing lathe stuff I was always looking for different things to cast and make something out of. I was an obsession. Clayton717 1 Quote

Clayton717 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Report Posted March 4, 2017 That's very cool! Any pics of the blank, before you turned it? I don't have a pic of that blank before turning, but here is a similar one with scrap chunks of wood instead of sticks. The center "plug" keeps from wasting resin and gives me a way to attach it to the lathe. Lucky2 1 Quote
Rob Posted March 4, 2017 Report Posted March 4, 2017 Thanks Clayton. It is really interesting to see the starting blank. Rob Clayton717 1 Quote

Thanks Clayton. .Take care. Rob Roy. Edited March 4, 2017 by Rob Roy Clayton717 1 Quote

I use polyester resin(simlar 41). I have never tried the epoxy resin. I'm thinking on trying Alumilite not sure if that is epoxy resin or not. Quote
Paul hd Posted March 4, 2017 Report Posted March 4, 2017 Alumilte clear is a polyurethane and odourless. Unfortunately nobody stocks it in the U.K. We can get a alumilite amazing clear which takes longer to cure. It cuts brilliantly but is super expensive in the small quantities that we have to buy.
