A couple of years ago I started a new family tradition when our oldest daughter announced that she would be making us first-time grandparents. The new tradition was that I would build the nursery funtiture (a crib and a chest of drawers) for each of my 4 children's first born child.

Initially, it seemed like a great idea. My first Grandaughter (Clover Riley) arrived in September of 2007 and just less than a year later our son and his wife gave us our second Granddaughter (Haley Marie). Luckily..., our other two daughters have shown restraint and given Papa this summer off.

Anyway, here are some photos of Clover and Haley's nursery furniture. The first two are Clover's crib, made of Hard Maple. And the last two are Haley's crib and chest of drawers, both made from White Oak.

You did a beautiful job on those! Very impressive. Sounds like a pretty tight schedule with all the work that went into those. But in the end, you have some beautiful nursery furniture. The little ones are resting in style.

Thanks Travis. All totaled, each set took me about 9-10 weeks of nights and weekends. But they're built to last. Clover's crib (top one) is all mortise & teneon joinery - if I recall over 106 separate mortise & tenon joints. Except for the springs and rail hardware, there are just 6 screws in the whole thing.

Okay, okay, enough already. I appreciate all the kind comments, but you all are starting to give me the big head. Both were definitely labors of love.

It's not often that you get a chance to combine two of the greatest loves of your life -- grandchildren and woodworking. It just doesn't get any better than that!
