rljohn56 Posted February 23, 2018 Report Posted February 23, 2018 i'm new to this creating and then trying to sell my stuff so i have a question: i have a lady who recently purchased a drawing that they had made up for a logo for her company. She wants me to turn that drawing into a scroll saw version as well. even though there is no way i can make it exactly as detailed as the original do i still have to get some sort of permission to do this from the original artist? or the fact that this lady bought it clears me of any issues? thanks, ray Quote
WayneMahler Posted February 23, 2018 Report Posted February 23, 2018 Normally when a person purchases a print or photo they do not purchase the artistic rights to it, that remains with the original author / artist . I did a custom logo for a company and had to sign papers that I would never make another for anyone else. I also had then sign off on my legal rights to reproduce it in wood. She looked at me a little funny until I explained that I needed to cover my butt for the copyright issues. tgiro 1 Quote
Dan Posted February 23, 2018 Report Posted February 23, 2018 A lot of companies purchase rights to the logo. Check to see if they have the rights for you to reproduce it in wood. Quote
new2woodwrk Posted February 24, 2018 Report Posted February 24, 2018 Yeah, check for the rights - we've had several logos made for a few companies and we always retain the rights Quote
