I don't have any experience with the Jet.. but I sure am intrigued with that upper clamp and how it clamps and tensions in the same lever in one step..

Steve Good did a review on the saw..

I will say it is a bottom feed only saw.. so if you like to top feed then it's not for you probably..

Looking forward to hearing what others might say as well..

Also take a look in the review forum... pretty sure there is some reviews on the saw here in the scroll saw village review forum..

I purchased one a year ago and it vibrated so bad I couldn't use it. Called the manufacturer and after about the fifth guy I talked to I actually got one that at least knew what a scroll saw was. They had me try all kinds of things but was unable to rectify the issue. Had me send it back and sent me another one. It also vibrated but not as bad. Probably could have lived with it but that was a lot of money for just so, so. I called them again and they said there was nothing they could do. After that they would not return phone calls or emails. I returned it also. I did like the upper clamp though I would like to have it on my EX21 and my ST21. The bottom clamp not so good if you are changing blades a lot. It did come with two blade holders though and you could have a extra blade ready to go. I don't want you not to buy the saw on my review though. They may have gotten smoother and several people out there have them and like them. Really it is just an Excalibur with different blade holders everything else looks the same.  Unless you put the New Pegas blade clamps on it is pretty much a bottom feed machine

Scrollingforsanity, Welcome to the forum.   So glad to see you join in.  Scrollers, I have met this gentleman in person and consider him a good scrolling friend.  Please welcome him into the Village.  Not to interfere with the original intent of this thread, I just wanted to welcome Grizz.   As to  input on the Jet saw, I have not seen nor used one.  My concern is of the scrollers across the forums, I know of that have the Jet, they seem to be replacing the clamps with the Pegas clamps, which, to me would defeat the original reason to buy a Jet in the first place,,, for the upper clamp setup.  It is unique to this saw and if you replace,,, why, buy it??

Paul - A question I have always had about the upper clamp - how does it handle blades of different thickness? The difference between a 2/0 blade and a #5 is pretty great in the world of scroll saw blades.  Seems to me that after using #5 or #7 blades and then switching down to a #1 or #2/0, the upper clamp might not be tight enough for the thinner blade. Has anyone mentioned this?  I think Carole mentioned this in the review she did of the Jet.

Have you seen the upper blade clamp?

It has adjustable wheels I believe.... wheels are nothing more than bearings..  Very similar to a bandsaw wheel / bearing guide.. but works as a pinch as in pinching the blade in a rolling action so it's not smashing it.. I cannot remember now exactly how it does work.. I suppose I could download the manual and see.. But while playing with one last year on the showroom floor.. I was able to understand how it all worked..

I'm guessing you could download the manual somewhere and maybe see some adjustment instructions etc..

Welcome to the Village!!!

Just out of curiosity.. did you mount the saw to the stand? and level the stand to the floor where it was going to be permanently be located at? I ask this question because I've bought and had many different scroll saws over the years.. many of which had very bad vibration until I went through and made a whole lot of adjustments.. My Excalibur and one of the Hawks was one of the worst ones for vibration until I got to tweaking the stands and saws to be sure they was planted flat to the concrete floor etc.. now they run almost vibration free..

Glad you asked .Actually had it bolted to a shop bench exactly where i had my Excalibur bolted down. Even fit the same bolt holes. My Excalibur as very little or no vibration bolted to this bench. Again don't let my review keep you from buying one. You might get one that runs perfect. I am glad i didn't keep it as i change blades a lot and it was a little more time consuming. If you had an Excalibur you won't see much difference except the blade clamps and a couple cosmetic differences

I have the Jet, and I really like it. The top clamp is great for changing from hole to hole on a fretwork piece. I didn't have any issues with vibration. It vibrates a little at the full speed, but if I back it off just at little, it passes the nickel test. Mine actually came with three bottom clamps, so I've usually got two blades ready to go and by the time I need to reload, its about time for a short break anyways. The upper clamp does work on any variety of blade thickness. The clamp works by pinching the blade between two plates that are squeezed between the bearing. I have made adjustments by turning the handle of the blade clamp lever to lower/raise the blade clamp for thicker or thinner blades as needed. However, if you adjust it too much to the loose, it won't squeeze enough to grab any blades. Hope that helps. Like I said, I really like mine. It's a great, solidly built saw that was a huge upgrade over my old Delta. If you decide to go with it, I hope your experience is as good as mine.

Thank You Scrappile for the kind introduction. We will be meeting again soon. Now for the Jet upper clamp. For what time I had the Jet saw I tried several different size blades and as I use a Flying Dutchman #1 silver reverse quite a bit I tried it the most. The Jet clamp had no trouble at all using that small blade. I only had the saw a couple weeks but it worked flawlessly in that time. Very easy and quick to use. I did not like the bottom clamp.
