Segmentation or Intarsia?

Made this some weeks ago as a trial. Just plain old pine.

Have been told the eyes are too “staring”

I would consider that to be segmentation, the eyes are fine.

Yes, segmentation as it is cut mainly from one piece of wood.

Eyes are a bit much and maybe to large and too white.  The great thing is to experiment with various eye size and color.  I have done Intarsia where I have made several different eyes until I found ones I like.

If the elephant was surprised then the eyes are good. My eyes get bigger if am startled. :>)

Ah yes, the eyes. Even with animals, the pathway to the soul. In general, eyes are more oval  than circular and are surrounded by a contrasting color. Be it true intarsia or segmentation a good effort. Enclosed is one I did a few years back to show what I'm talking about.
