kmmcrafts Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 Posting up some screen shots to show you how back links can work for you if you have a website or just selling on a venue.. What is a back link? Well I googled it and screen shot it so it's in the first picture, LOL Saves me some typing, LOL This Etsy stats screen shot..I took from my page yesterday.. Notice how esty only brought me 44% of my customers and I brought in 56% and etsy is declining in showing my products but i'm increasing them.. IF you are a new seller or only a year or so old at etsy.. They give your products a higher ranking to help get you started.... as the years go buy you sort of get lost in it all as they expect you to do something too... You see many sellers complain that their views and sales have tanked and it's etsys fault... I never knew etsy was in charge of making sure you get views and sales.. don't think etsy knew that either, LOL Over the coarse of about 5 years I've been putting back links all over the internet.. social sites etc.. BTW.. Notice how there is direct traffic and then there is social.. their filter system isn't the greatest.. some of these get mixed up.. If I post a product link on a facebook page it's a direct link to my product.. but it sometimes come in the stats as a social link or a direct link.. it is kinda both.. so that info isn't always correct.. The next shot is only an example of what one could possibly do with a lot of hard work.. What would the example be if one doesn't do anything to work their shop and only relied on etsy to show your product.. I would guess.. maybe that number would be more like $5000 if your lucky.. A lot of those "direct" traffic views are from forums and groups where someone ask wow that clock is cool where can i buy one.. so i drop a link.. maybe 30-50 people go look.. typically out of those I sell 1-10.. LOL that really depends on how well it's received by them and if the price is too steep or ? Anyway.. back links are a back bone... any site that you want to be seen and ranked higher in searches.. a website that is dead and lost in cyber space.. is not magically going to rank high.. probably won't rank at all on searches.. Those of you who have your own site and its fairly new.. you probably barely see any traffic right.. It's tough to get views and sales on a website.. This ranking of mine is after 5 years of working it fairly hard and on a popular selling venue to boot.. Want more views? better start building back links.. and some paid advertising might help.. but the real deal is back links.. That may change someday.. GrampaJim 1 Quote

kmmcrafts Posted December 14, 2019 Author Report Posted December 14, 2019 It's just easier for me to "post" it once than to keep answering the same questions 4-5 times through Pm's I know that 99% of the folks here could care less and that's okay.. they don't have to read it.. GrampaJim 1 Quote

teachnlearn Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 I was investigating that when I did sharpening. Isn't there website or software that helps manage and update all of the social sites and search sites of your products and services? I seem to remember either seeing it in a business or internet business book, or maybe through searching POS websites. I can visualize a screen page that managed links and updates of the most popular sites. We are packing and the apartment is looking empty, no more grabbing a book for a while til we find and moved into a house. Can't check the books I have on the shelves. My wife has already claimed a extra room, my son that helps use, wants part of the basement to live in, which is far, since he has put his life on hold and will be able to start working and still help us. ME? I'm fighting for a two car garage for a shop, though it might be a large cardboard box in the ya Quote

ME? I'm fighting for a two car garage for a shop, though it might be a large cardboard box in the ya There is a site that manages all your social sites.. such as.. you post a topic on the site and it'll put it on all your social sites you want it to go to ( provided you have a page on that social site..) Social sites also change.. you want to go where you get under priced attention.. and it's always changing.. used to be.. My Space Twitter Snapchat Facebook Instagram Somehow I missed the whole Pintrest and other sites just like pinterest such as Mantresting.. supposed to be like pinterest but for men... I was on that one for a while but really is more like a porn site.. Go figure.. men posting their favorite photos why would it be anything else, LOL Very few men purchase my scrolled projects anyways so why show them to men? It's mostly women shopping for their men so Manteresting really does nothing for me.. I haven't been on there in a lot of years.. probably not even a site anymore...LOL.. Pinterest and wanelo was great sites to post things on several years ago.. when it was fairly new.. then all the site became was a place for crafters to go to steal your ideas and make the same thing.. LOL All of the above social type sites are old and not very productive to promotion like they were.. there are some new sites out now that either are in the process of taking over or have taken over where everyone's attention is at.. As for advertising.. people do not pay any attention to ads.. Think about what happens when a commercial comes on the TV... people look at their phone.. billboards years ago along the highways used to be a way to advertise.... look at what all the people are doing when on the highway these days.. does anyone look up from their phone while riding in the car? Heck.. many drivers are on their phone, LOL Scrolling through FB.. nobody stops to look at a advertisement.. Where is the attention at and how to you get it? Video... but not so much on youtube these days unless you're doing how-to videos.. But that market is not a good place to get people to come buy from your website either.. LOL Audio is going to eventually take over a lot of stuff.. People are busy.. and visual.. so I think short video clips and audio clips where people can listen while doing their thing.. whether driving, working, or at the gym.. people value their time too.. so shopping from home or riding as a passenger down the highway people are shopping on their phones.. One day you'll soon be shopping through audio.. "Siri I need some 3mm BB ply.. get me 3 sheets.. express delivery please " and the next day plywood is at your door..That saved someone a trip to the store.. it also saved someone time looking through all the web stores that sell plywood.. you just "ask" siri or alexa and they'll do the work.. teachnlearn 1 Quote
teachnlearn Posted December 15, 2019 Report Posted December 15, 2019 I closed our business 2 1/2 years ago and haven't had to opportunity to restart. Thanks, I won't have to post everywhere and find out it doesn't work. RJF Quote

BadBob Posted December 16, 2019 Report Posted December 16, 2019 Most 80% of my Etsy shop views are sent there by me using this method. Mostly from Pinterest. I do use other social media as well but nothing works as well for me as Pinterest. Twitter never produces anything. Facebook produces some and is increasing. To get this to work you need to post something somewhere everyday and keep at it. Learn about SEO and use it. Read the documentation for the sites you use. meflick and kmmcrafts 2 Quote

The problem with Twitter and FB is they got big and had everyone trying to show something... so they changed up the algorithm so you post something and maybe only a 3rd of your followers even get shown the post you put up. This eventually ends up happening on all of these social sites at some point.. Grabbing peoples attention isn't about slamming products into their faces like it used to be too... You have to put out "content" that's interesting and brings them some sort of value... People aren't interested is seeing more ads.. but put out informational, or funny type content.. Let people get to know who you are.. is way better than showing off a product to them and shoving ads in their face.. The way we advertise today is not what it was in the past.. It's forever changing.. as well as where to advertise.. I don't do nearly enough social sites and content.. Yes.. content needs to be not just once a week.. not even once a day.. more like 10 times a day on every platform.. and.. different stuff on each platform.. which is why I don't use a website that you can post to all the social sites from one place.. because it doesn't work like that anymore Quote
