nrscroller Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 Hi All, I just rearranged my shop and set up my Dewalt scroll saw to use along with my hegner and I thought about gettting a wall mount dust collector for that purpose. Anybody use one and recommend brands etc. Will they really pick up the dust? I have a jet on my ceiling and run that also, but I get that fine dust from my bb plywood. Thanks Bill OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Denny Knappen Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 I have the Seyco attached directly to the Pegas Scroll Saw. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Sycamore67 Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 Personally, I think a shop vac is better for a scroll saw than a dust collector. A dust collector has a hugely lower vacuum than a shop vac. A dust collector has up to 10" of vacuum while a shop vac is typically over 60" . When going thru small pipe or hoses this will be important. A dust collector is great for larger sizes hoses like a 4" hose. I have a powerful dust collector that does not do very good on small hoses on my scroll saw. But a shop vac does much better. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
nrscroller Posted December 14, 2019 Author Report Posted December 14, 2019 Hi Thanks for the answers, I am hard of hearing and wear 2 aids and if I use a shop vac then I have to wear headphones and take hearing aids out. I don't know if I want to do that, also wouldn't a shop vac get awful hot if your running for like an hour steady? I might try my 1 hp vac on it and see. I am not spending 500 dollars for a quiet shop vac either. I thought shop Vac made a quiet one but I can't find it at Menards or Wally mart Thanks Bill OCtoolguy 1 Quote

You can either make one or buy one for about $40. My Fein vac has that built in. I bought it used on Craigslist for $175. Very quiet compared to my Ridgid vac. Jim Finn Posted December 20, 2019 Report Posted December 20, 2019 I tried shop vacs on my scroll saw but killed two of them. One was new. I spend hours at a time at my saw and it seems the shop vacs cannot handle that for long. OCtoolguy and JTTHECLOCKMAN 1 1 Quote
Fish Posted December 22, 2019 Report Posted December 22, 2019 I have used a small shop vac on my EX-21 but plugged in to my pedal so it kicks on and off as you use the saw. Mine is doing ok so far. OCtoolguy and Jim Finn 1 1 Quote
tomsteve Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 something that would work good for a dust collector on a scrollsaw is to make the bench the SS sits on a downdraft table. the DC will pull the dust down and out OCtoolguy 1 Quote
