Popular Post Ninuninu Posted January 14, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted January 14, 2020 This is something that I cut quite a while ago entitled Redeemer. It is cut from 420 mm x 300 mm x 10 mm (16 1/4" x 11 3/4" x 3/8") steamed beach with a sprayed black 6 mm (1/4") plywood backer. Using only my small hand fretsaw (which has a reach of 290 mm (11 1/2") I had to drill multiple entry holes to cut from different sides as the depth wouldn't allow me to turn the fret saw, thus taking it from the original 300 or so entry holes to about 700. All in all it took me about 65 hours just to cut. Hope you like the finished result. Good day folks. Tony meflick, Dave Monk, New Guy and 14 others 17 Quote

I remember seeing that type of a saw when I would be in my Grandad’s wood shop. With all the talk about CNC & laser cutting my Grandad would have said these electric Scrollsaw machines aren’t wood working. Good to be reminded that things change. Myself I wouldn’t want to tackle a project like you did with a hand saw. But respect you for doing it the way you want to. Ninuninu 1 Quote

Yes it is pretty old school but I sort of feel it more when working by hand so I never really got into using a scroll saw. Regarding CNC and laser they are both big no nos for me. Tony Quote
spirithorse Posted January 14, 2020 Report Posted January 14, 2020 Impressive work, Tony! You have also given me new insight into the fretsaw. I never really thought about the depth of the project and a hand fret saw. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse Ninuninu 1 Quote

When I first started I never thought that I would get anywhere near what I am doing now... but alas I still have a long way to go. Tony Quote

Thanks Gordie Coping saws are great also but due to the shallow depth from blade to frame and that fact that I like to cut portraits makes it a little too limited for me. Tony Quote
