tgiro Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 Stopped in Home Depot this morning looking far a new drill & driver set. They had a rigid set on sale for $199, down from $259. Went to pay and found that the military discount no longer applies to things that are already on sale. It only works for things that are regular priced. So, I backed off from the buy. Stopped at the local Lowes, on the way home and found a Dewalt set, on sale for $189, down from $239. When the girl scanned my MyLowes ID, it knocked another $19 off for my 10% military discount. Wound up paying $170+tax. I guess HD decided my primary hardware store for me. RabidAlien, danny, ChelCass and 4 others 7 Quote
Wilson142 Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 I'm sort of in the same boat. I know the Home Depot layout better but Lowes customer service far exceeds that of Home Depot. I miss Menards! danny and amazingkevin 2 Quote
Hawk Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 I ran into the same issue a couple of years ago which is why I only shop at Lowe's now. Chris amazingkevin and danny 2 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 My local Lowe’s has the worst customer service. It is right up there with Walmart. I go to a neighboring town to go to Lowe’s. Home Depot is even further. amazingkevin 1 Quote
new2woodwrk Posted March 17, 2020 Report Posted March 17, 2020 Having worked at HD I can tell you they are not the HD of the past. Their customer service is severely lacking - at least it is in my area. We have 2 and both leave much to be desired in terms of customer service. I've been to others in other areas and they seem to be hit or miss depending on the management style. Lowes however, always seems to be the same no matter which one I go to and I really don't expect much from the help. Not that I expect much from HD employees either, but Lowes just seems to be a bit more customer oriented. At least that's been my experience amazingkevin 1 Quote
jblock9907 Posted March 17, 2020 Report Posted March 17, 2020 HD is getting pickier and pickier on what they will give military discounts on. Quote
rjweb Posted March 17, 2020 Report Posted March 17, 2020 Lowe’s are changing their military discount April 1, no discount if on sale, RJ amazingkevin 1 Quote
Dan Posted March 17, 2020 Report Posted March 17, 2020 When I make a large purchase at either store I stop off at our neighborhood Kroger first and pick up a gift card for hardware store. It doesn't give me a discount at the hardware store but I can save up to $35 when I fill up the truck. Hawk, ChelCass and amazingkevin 3 Quote
amazingkevin Posted March 18, 2020 Report Posted March 18, 2020 I shop both places , I know all the spots and get deals put you have to look for them. I needed another side 9" sander polisher and found a broken one at lowes for $20 bucks the cord was pinched and ceased to supply electric to the tool. I got an electric chain saw the same way for a $20, broken bags of grass seed or dirt or fertilizer so cheap it's giving it away. That's how I get discounts that I will need later. Is there like a bargain bin or clearance shelf you find these? I've never seen broken items for sale at Lowes! Share the wealth Quote
tgiro Posted March 19, 2020 Author Report Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) I think I screwed up - I went to the local Lowes two days ago for screws. They were having open interviews and one position was tools. So, I filled out an app and chatted with them for about 20 minutes and got hired for the tools job. I finished filling in all the online app, background check and pre-orientation stuff this morning. Got an email a few minutes ago saying they would call me for the orientation briefing in the next day or two. Luckily I have Nitril gloves and sanitizer, but a friend, who already works there, says hey have gallons of Purell, boxes of gloves and sanitary wipes to wipe down everything. I already retired from the Army and a civilian IT career. Don't really need the money, but it will help pay for some of my toys and I get discounts Edited March 19, 2020 by tgiro meflick, WayneMahler and ChelCass 2 1 Quote
JimErn Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 @tgiro When opportunity knocks as they say Get the MP3 for the song, "Take this Job and Shove it", and put it on your phone; then, you can play it on the phone at a moments notice - that kind of option makes working almost pleasant. Quote
