Dan-Woodman Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Around here in the midwest, Lowe's is higher priced than HD later Daniel Quote
jdbcarving Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 Home Depot still has the 10 percent off, had to show my VA Hospital ID. Our Lowes here in Howell, Mi. doesn't honor the discount either. Jim Quote

Jim Finn Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 I did four years in the USAF. Honorable discharge and the VA will not give me a card because I am not poor enough. No card no discount here. My buddy did 3 years and has the card, go figure. Quote
Dan Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Jim, If you have a copy of your DD214, try using that. My local HD will honor it. Quote
jdbcarving Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 Our HDepot now longer gives the discounts, unless you have the active duty cards. Couple of guys at our American Legion post pulled out there old ID cards and show those. They get the discount now. Home Depot sent our Legion a request for $100 donation for a class to teach vets how to do home repairs. Guess they only learned to blow them up? Jim B Quote
retmsgt Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 I realize this is about 1-3 years later than the beginning blog. I shop both HD and Lowes. Both will provide me with a 10% discount. I initiate the discount by showing them my Mil ID (retired). Here, if you have a VA id card, which shows you are a veteran, you can get the discount. I would encounage you to check out the various discounts available to vets listed on Military.com. (I have no stock in this company). This site provides excellent news about current happenings as well as offers available through various merchants. Semper Fi Quote
sailor10 Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 At HD I was told that only retired vets or those that have a VA card will be honored. DD 214 or even if you drivers lic. says you are a vet, no deal. Quote
lovsclocks Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 I only shop at Lowes and they honor the ID card I have from the VA hospital here in upstate New York, I get a 10% discount on anything I buy at Lowes. Not happy with HD at all so will pay alittle more by shopping at Lowes. Quote
LarryEA Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Thank you all for the information. The real HONOR is to those who served! Quote
amazingkevin Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 i 'm not a vet , but the squeaky wheel gets the grease.I was offered 50 off on an item and complained i was supposed to get 75 ?% the manager gave me95% off,at loves boy was i happy that day.I hate bait & switch Quote
LarryEA Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 I am going to start Pursuing getting a card. I think I can use my DD214 and get a card from my County Admin. I did four years in the USAF. Honorable discharge and the VA will not give me a card because I am not poor enough. No card no discount here. My buddy did 3 years and has the card, go figure. Quote
LarryEA Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 If you have a DD214, go to your County Clerk and get a Discount Card. Your County Ckerk also will have a list of participating merchants. Oh, I checked our area and neither HD or Lowes are listed. Boo hiss. Any business I go to I will show my card and request a discount. Hey, no harm in asking. Quote
ChelCass Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 Hmmmm, I was a vet's wife (divorced)and I still get a discount at H.D. and Lowes. Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 I can't help with discount but I would like to thanks you guys who served out there for everything that keep all our shores safe and continue to do so. And if they paid you double it's not enough. Rob Roy, Fab4 and Wilson's Woodworking 3 Quote
Clayton717 Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 I was in the Army National Guard for 9 years and they tell me I can't get the card because I don't have enough active duty. But I qualify for a VA loan. Go figure. So I just carry my old military ID card. Quote
whirldworks Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 I was told by a friend who works at HD that essentially all employees are allowed to discount prices, all you have to do is ask. I haven't excercised that option yet because what little I buy I find to be at reasonable enough prices. If I need to make a larger purchse though I'll give it a try. Quote
