Whisper Posted May 22, 2020 Report Posted May 22, 2020 I dropped just about everything to get my garden going for this year. I have not sawed anything, but now I have a little more time. I'm posting some pictures, the garden is a lot bigger now and plants are climbing. Summer squash is popping out everywhere and lots of lettuce. Tomatoes are hanging on all the vines but they're all green. That huge tree is a fig and is loaded. I got the chickens on March 10, they were just little peeps then, they're starting to bok. The rooster was an accident, but he keeps the hens in line from fighting, steps right between them. Just wanted to let you know that I'm still alive and kicking! Howdy! amazingkevin, RabidAlien, Tomanydogs and 6 others 8 1 Quote

John B Posted May 23, 2020 Report Posted May 23, 2020 Way to go. Nice fresh produce. I haven't seen a fig tree for a long time. When I was a youngster they were everywhere, or seemed to be. Mum always made heaps of fig jam. Whisper 1 Quote

Puzzleguy Posted May 23, 2020 Report Posted May 23, 2020 (edited) Looks fantastic ! My wife and i have been working on a victory garden as well - but no chickens -thou that would be different -maybe not fun but different . Where we are it took us a while to clear out a former garden -digging out hedges and over grown flowers - plus our growing season for putting in the plants isnt right yet- way to wet and the vegetables are not mature enough to plant . My wife did everything from seed. But the soil looks amazing - dont have any pictures yet -its just a big square with black dirt ! weve tilled it three times - with one more for luck ( as per a farmer friend ) Edited May 23, 2020 by Puzzleguy Whisper 1 Quote
teachnlearn Posted May 23, 2020 Report Posted May 23, 2020 Chickens? I thought eggs are grown from egg plants. RJF Whisper 1 Quote
Whisper Posted July 14, 2020 Author Report Posted July 14, 2020 Hello everyone! We got our first egg yesterday and another one today! I thought those birds were never going to lay. The rooster was given away, he started attacking me every time I went inside the pen, the others seem happier without him. We got 6 more layers and they're big now. Here's some more pictures of the garden. I lost all my summer squash due to vine borers. Grrr they got them last year, too. Hope all you guys are enjoying your gardens, too. I did some scroll sawing yesterday, my neighbor's wooden wind chime broke and I made her a couple of replacement parts for it. That felt good to do that for her. Quote

There's plenty for everyone, though. John B 1 Quote
bandaideman Posted July 15, 2020 Report Posted July 15, 2020 That is definitely a great garden there. Wish I has room for one. The rooster should have been your evening dinner. All that growing of all kinds of eatable things but where are the Weeds. Whisper 1 Quote

He was so beautiful so the neighbors took him and I thought I smelled a pot of chicken soup a couple of days later. The weeds! Last year I had tons, this year I learned how great mulch can be. Quote
