Four samples of different colors - which do you like?  Help I have limited taste.

To me the other 3 are better than the red. 

 

I cannot explain why, because I do not know, they just have more personal a[appeal.

Purple or blue, although I'd personally use darker colors if you're going to do a light/natural stain.  Good contrast helps the pattern pop.

The Purple makes the cutting stand out more. The light blue is nice sort of like a skyish background.

Blue makes the most sense unless the pattern is supposed to be indoors. Outdoors the sky is blue.

A colored backer is nice but I agree with RabidAlien,  I think a darker backer would read much better.

I would go with a black background. Hard to see in the color ones.
