Ken O Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Getting there. Never tried this one before. Got my hand in there for reference. Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 looking real nice. I see that you drew the pattern on to the wood, or was it a trace? DW Quote
Ken O Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 It was a carbon paper trace. After I did all that I learned about the painters tape trick. Last time I'll do that for sure! Quote
Ken O Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 Ok so now I need some help. I didn't think this was going to be a big problem, thought I could work my way around it. The piece is 21 inches long but my saw is 16 in deep. Anyone have experience with this? I tried a spiral blade but it's too wide of a cut for a lot of what I need. Quote
toolbeltman Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Ken...you can grab the blade just below the top blade clamp with a pair of pliers and then just above the bottom blade clamp and twist it 90 degrees left or right (same direction for both obviously...lol) ...or put in in backwards to get to the parts you are having trouble reaching....hope this helps... Quote
WolfmoonCT Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 I have a pattern I want to do, that is too big for my saw too Ken. I'm just gonna wait till I have a larger saw to cut it. Unfortunately, your already in the middle of yours. Quote
Ken O Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 I tried the backwards blade thing but I'm really worried I'm going to screw this thing up. It's like trying to throw a ball left handed. Most of the time it goes where you want but every once in a while WHOA BABY! More than halfway done and I DON'T want to start all over. I think my wife may have solved my problem. She said, "Looks like you need a bigger saw." I said "Yep, looks like it." She said, "Well, what's the hold up...." Quote
igadavis Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Well if that is all it takes to get a bigger, better saw, then I need to start working on some larger projects. Quote
Xray Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Get some 2.0 spirals, thats the smallest made, and good for all but the tiniest cuts. Quote
Ken O Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 Well if that is all it takes to get a bigger, better saw, then I need to start working on some larger projects. Well she did request one of these Last supper pictures also.... She is the benificiary of most of my work so she knows she'll get something out of it. I tried a # 2 spiral blade on it for a few minutes. I'm sure I could be ok with it after some practice but I'm not going to use this project to "Practice". I'm sure nobody else would know if there were any goof ups and if this was going to be mine I'd be ok with that but it's not. I've done a lot with that Craftsman in 8 years and it's time to upgrade anyway. Put an order in for a Dewalt 788 from Grizzly Tools yesterday. Quote
WolfmoonCT Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 I'm hoping to get one of the 788's next year. But the new Delta gets decent reviews too. Looks like they took a lot of the dewalt features into the Delta. Quote
Joey Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Ken Try turning the blade to a 90 degree vice 180, and cut from the right or left side of the saw. Joey Quote
Ken O Posted May 21, 2011 Author Report Posted May 21, 2011 Ok, got the new saw in the other day so here is the latest progress. This new Dewalt is SOOOOO much quieter and smoother than the old Craftsman it's hard to believe. Quote
amazingkevin Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 Great job Ken, i,d love that one one my wall someday when i get a wall again!lol. is this your pattern or?The thicker wood really sets this one off great.Glad you got a fine saw now too! Quote
Ken O Posted May 25, 2011 Author Report Posted May 25, 2011 It's DONE!!! Made a frame for both of them tonight. Just need to sand and stain the frames and those are done too. I plan on putting black felt behind it to give a good contrast. Glad this ones done, now on to the next project. Kevin, I got this pattern from my brotherin-law but I'm not sure where he got it from. I have a bunch of patterns I need to get scanned and put on here. Quote

Ken O Posted June 20, 2011 Author Report Posted June 20, 2011 Well, the Last Supper went for $125. It would have gone higher but my uncle was bidding against his own daughter in law, so you know how that goes! We raised $1017.00 for Grandma this year even though there wasn't near as many people there as in years past. Oh, and she is 98 now not 97 like I thought, I missed a year there somehow. Quote
