Popular Post Dan Posted February 21, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted February 21, 2021 Bought this about a month ago for a project I've been working on. It's the Dewalt 735. There are several features that sold me on it. One of the neatest is the dust port. It has a built-in blower and man is it powerful. When hooked to the dust collector I was a little scared of it putting too much pressure on my cheap dust collector. So I gave this a try. Just a few hose pieces and a dust bag. Works fantastic! Now it's more portable, uses less electric, and is quieter since the dust collector is not running. danny, jollyred, Karl S and 7 others 10 Quote
LarryEA Posted February 21, 2021 Report Posted February 21, 2021 Looks good. Sounds like a winner. danny 1 Quote
Charlie E Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 I'm jealous! Hope to own that model planer one day. I like scrolling with hardwoods and I use my planer on pretty much every project. amazingkevin 1 Quote
WayneMahler Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 Looks like you got a winner then. I have looked at these and really like them. I have a Ridgid that I am pretty happy with so maybe when it goes this will be the replacement. Mine runs almost every day prepping wood, hard and soft for projects. Can you give us a review once your setup and have spent time with it. danny 1 Quote
dgman Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 Hey Dan, l like your solution, but I think is is unnecessary. I use my old PSI dust collector on my DeWALT planer without any problems. You are right that the fan ejects the sawdust extremely efficiently, but should help any dust collector collect every bit of sawdust. I love my DeWALT 735 planer! Quote

I got some off of Amazon for Christmas but they are a fraction too wide which causes them to cut deeper and below the level of the second roller. So the second roller doesn't make good contact with the board and doesn't push it out and the knives gouge the end of the board badly. Just wondered if you've bought replacement knives and where. I just looked at a sight that sells what is supposed to be exact replacements and they are $90 for 2. Yikes. Edited February 22, 2021 by Charlie E Quote
amazingkevin Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 Very nice machine you chose! I just broke my Ryobe planer belt, planing a cedar plank 6" thick by 10" wide 4' long. I forgot to clean the plates before and after the wood slides on as it was coated in spray glue for months. Dan and Tomanydogs 2 Quote

I'll do a more thorough review after a while with it. Quote

I have an old, cheap Harbor Freight dust collector and the filters don't snug up very well. I've had the top filter bag blow off a few time (and what a mess). Some day I'll upgrade to a real dust collector. I also have limited space in my shop so this workaround makes it more portable and I don't need to disconnect and move a tool to use my planer. Unfortunately, the bag I bought for my planer is for a 6" dust collector and the planer has a 4" port. It works but I will probably put together a 4" to 6" adapter. Quote
oldhudson Posted February 23, 2021 Report Posted February 23, 2021 Looks like a great unit. I suspect it's better than my old Delta, but I'm unwilling to sell that and get a 735. Quote
