I have had both,,, the Ex is without any, any,,, doubt a better saw in MY opinion, with out a doubt... But to each his/her own... My Seyco is a better saw,,, my Hegner a better, better, better saw. Okay,,, no fight,,, we can have our opinions.... I guess if you like to work on your saws to keep them running ,,,, you may be correct... But on this, sir, we disagree.. and I will shut up now... Gotta remember.. I have the crap China made version of the Excalibur.. sorry they bought out the name and make me use it against the "real" Excalibur.. I forget that not everyone knows that "MY" Excalibur is the China made version and probably worst than a old worn out Harbor Freight saw and that's putting it lightly.. I finally bought all new guts to the saw from Ray last summer to make it a real Excalibur... Nothing to it other than the frame, motor, and electronics is left of the China saw.. Even so.. now with original EX guts.. I'm not impressed.. much better than before but still not what the fine folks on here say their Excalibur's are.. OCtoolguy Posted May 27, 2021 Report Posted May 27, 2021 I wish now that I had figured out the problem with my Hegner. It was like new when I got it but to me it had a speed problem. I've been watching/waiting for another one to come along but so far no luck. I'm patient though. For now, 2 Ex's will have to suffice. amazingkevin 1 Quote

I paid $230 for one and put another hundred into it. It's like new now. The second one I found on Marketplace for $40. It's a single speed and I had to buy a Quick clamp for it and the tension lever spring broke right after I got it. It now works great. I have it for sale on Marketplace for $450. I'll just sit back and wait. Something has to got to go though, I'm out of space. No more saws for a while. amazingkevin 1 Quote

kmmcrafts Posted October 8, 2021 Report Posted October 8, 2021 I don't doubt everyone on this page has better saws than mine.. I work the crap outa my saws.. nothing in my shop is like new after 3 month of being used they are considered well used.. I rebuilt the EX-21 last October.. It's got 200 hours since the rebuild and already getting the knocking sounds coming back.. Good thing I only use it part time and mainly use the Hawk.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

danny Posted July 12, 2022 Report Posted July 12, 2022 Greetings Ray.... Love my 1998 Hegner and it is well used. I also have a Speed Issue. Talked to my favorite gal at Hegner and said is a Mother Board Issue. Cost very high for me. $200 plus.... I kind of have just learned to use it as is. Speed knob set at 50% and it starts out like full blast, but when the blade meets the wood it slows down to what I can live with. Anyway I just tacking this on for Conversation.... Danny :+} You might try cleaning out the control box and the rheostat in particular. That's what it sounds like. It's got a dirty spot. I'd bet on it. If the rheostat is bad that's not a tough repair. If you can't handle it, there's got to be an appliance repair around. I've got an electronics supply shop near me that does repairs like that. Quote
danny Posted July 12, 2022 Report Posted July 12, 2022 Thanks Ray.... Not being much with Circuit boards n Electricity I guess I will go the Cleaning route ....Again.... Was what was suggested a couple years ago which I did.... Remember it did make a LITTLE difference. I will Investigate taking it to a Repair shop or something. I will give the cleaning a go first. Again I think you Ray.......................Danny :+} OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted July 13, 2022 Report Posted July 13, 2022 You may have to remove the control box if cleaning doesn't work. Replacing the rheostat is not a big deal for someone with electronic experience. Quote

Sure is hard to find any play in a DeWalt but finally found an article explaining the problem areas. Edited July 16, 2022 by amazingkevin Spelling OCtoolguy 1 Quote
