sst17 Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 I have a customer who has asked me to design a silhouette of a sports car. The car will be designed in 5 pieces so that when it is hung you will see the car as well as the word for the type of car. I have attached the pattern below. They want the car cut from 1" material and they want to hang it approximately 1/2" off the wall. Is there a special hanger system to use that will allow me to have the 1/2" distance available? Everything I have ever done before I use sawtooth hangers or a wire hanging system (for signs an picture frames). I don't have any idea how to make something stick out from the wall. oldhudson Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 Unfortunately when I opened the attached file I couldn't see any detail so I can't imagine how it will be broken up. But I liked Wayne's idea, make a backer that can be hung from the wall, and use spaces to elevate the scrolled work. I did something similar with a sign project. Good luck. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
blondewood Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 I use the clear stick on rubber 'feet' about the diameter of a dime or less. They come in different thicknesses. I like them when using a picture hanger. I put one on each bottom corner so the frame or whatever is level to the wall instead of tilting. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
munzieb Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 You may want to consider using a "French Cleat" system. You can use a straight edge or laser to align the cleats along the wall and just add a stand off along the bottom for the spacing/depth. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
TAIrving Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Make your own French cleat, make it any dimension you want. I did this one using a 1/4" scrap with a 1/8" spacer behind it for a thin board (1/4") project and attached it with yellow glue. I had tried to attach a metal French cleat but was concerned about the nails poking through and damaging the front of the work. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
