dansnow Posted October 17, 2021 Report Posted October 17, 2021 You had me until the kidney beans, sorry, but can't stand the things. It's a result of a dish my mom made often using them when I was a sproutlet. meflick and smitty0312 2 Quote

It's a result of a dish my mom made often using them when I was a sproutlet. I had to laugh because I have never liked most beans of any kind. My mother also made homemade chili. Because I and one sister Did not care for the beans, she would make the chili up with everything but the beans. She would then pull out our share of the chili and then add the beans in to finish cooking in the main pot. She did that all my life. When I got married, and I made chili the first few times, I offered to do the same for my hubby (make the chili, pull out my portions, then add beans to finish it for him as he does like beans. ) He said no problem without the beans and has been eating bean-less chili for more than 36 years now. there are some advantages to not having the beans included. to add a little more story, first timed my hubby took me to his parents house to meet them, we were there and his mom had made chili (with beans of course). His sister had a busted up knee due to skiing accident so we were eating on trays in family room since she was laid up on couch. I discreetly ate around the beans best I could, then quickly took bowl to kitchen and washed out my bowl to put beans down the disposal. was a while before she learned I was a bit of a picky eater. Dan, it looks good (even with the beans. I would just eat around the beans. ) wombatie 1 Quote
dansnow Posted October 18, 2021 Report Posted October 18, 2021 I like most beans, as long as they aren't cooked to mush, except for refried or the peas in pea soup. The exceptions are kidney, lima, and garbanzo( unless in hummus). When I make chili it's in a crockpot with dried pinto beans, chicken broth, and either ground beef or stew meat, add a generous bit of Controlled Burn seasoning from Wild Eats and let it slow cook all day. Then served with green chili parmesan corn bread, chopped green onion, shredded cheese and cold beer. Dang, guess it's time to make another batch!! meflick 1 Quote
