munzieb Posted April 29, 2022 Report Posted April 29, 2022 I guess this topic doesn't fall under other woodwork so I figure I drop it here. My shop is in our 3 car garage. We are now down to one car and we only bring it in evenings into the garage. The double door area is my shop and I have posted pictures in the past. ( scroll saw shop challenge) Well, I'm in SC and from late march to mid November I leave the smaller garage door open (where I park the Mini Van) and it's nice to get the airflow in to include the ceiling fan and a standing fan to try to keep things comfortable. The bugs wander in and fly around for a while and either leave or end up looking out the windows for escape but die instead. We occasionally have Hummingbirds fly in and always fly up to the ceiling. I use one of the long poles for cleaning and attach one of the feathery dusters for cleaning fan blades on the end to trap them with their wings and get them out too. More than once I have had various birds fly in looking for a place to nest also. Chase them out too. Recently was watching a YouTube videos on Garage door screens and contacted a local company that installs them. Called them and got a quote and had one installed last week. It's in our smaller garage door and its 7 x 8' with a center sliding pass through door. Love it. I have to pull out the Van, but I do that every morning anyway. Unlike a standard garage door that has several panels, this is one piece so It can't be down when the car is inside, ( unless it is further in the garage) but for us , it's not a problem. Love it, Love It, Love It!!! Besides keeping the assorted critters out, it also keeps out all the leaves and assorted debris blowing in from the driveway. Our HOA requires side garage doors and with the darker screens, it keeps the prying eyes out too. I should have done this years ago. It seems to be very poplar in Florida. jollyred, meflick, wombatie and 6 others 9 Quote
GrampaJim Posted April 29, 2022 Report Posted April 29, 2022 I see those here in SE Wisconsin too. My wife keeps saying we should get one too. Glad you are enjoying it. danny and munzieb 1 1 Quote
John B Posted April 30, 2022 Report Posted April 30, 2022 (edited) That's a great idea and it looks good too. I couldn't stand being dictated to by a HOA about what I can do on my own property or home. The local councils are bad enough. Edited April 30, 2022 by John B munzieb and barb.j.enders 1 1 Quote
meflick Posted April 30, 2022 Report Posted April 30, 2022 I like that idea. I’m the one who has to run the birds out when my family doesn’t get the door down. Springtime, is really bad because they want to build a nest. Plus, if my dog sees them, then he’s chasing them all around. munzieb and danny 1 1 Quote
