MikeyZ Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I've purchased a DW788 and I'm wondering what type plades I should get. Spiral vs regular? Does anyone have any websites I can visit to learn the basics , intermediate, etc.....? Mike Quote
mikesscrollsaw Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 That's going to be totally up to you which type to use. I use mostly flat, and spirals when the project calls for it. I cut much straighter lines with flat. But i know people who use nothing but spirals. Quote
mikesscrollsaw Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I'd suggest you get a few of both types and give em a try. http://www.mikesworkshop.com/blades.htm Quote
Mick Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Mike, I would start with a flat blade. Spirals take a bit of getting used to, they cut in any direction you move the wood. Flat blades leave a much smoother cut. I use both but prefer the flat blades. Mick Quote
Clayton717 Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 myself I prefer flat blades. I've used spirals but just don't like them, I fel I have more control with the flat blades. Quote
qlty Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 As posted before( http://mikesworkshop.com/blades.htm) is a sponsor here and many here use his blades including myself.Spirals take some getting used to and all depends what material and patterns you are working with.Another great reference and source of many tips is Steve Goods Scrollsaw work shop, you can google him and get his website. MikeyZ Posted December 10, 2011 Author Report Posted December 10, 2011 Thanks everyone.. Do all the flat blades have the same tooth count or doesn't it matter.? Quote
Marshall Posted December 11, 2011 Report Posted December 11, 2011 I myself also like the flat blades , those spirals aren't for me ...............MB Quote
