Much about it on line. Or you can use the search feature on here. I'm sure many others have ask. Sorry I'm not much help, it would be a very long winded reply. Danj84 and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

ChelCass Posted December 15, 2022 Report Posted December 15, 2022 You can sell the item you cut from the patterns you just can't sell the pattern it's self. Scrappile, OCtoolguy and John B 3 Quote
Wichman Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 You need to ask each designer for permission to sell the items. Keep the documentation in a safe place. This can be troublesome when the designer is no longer an active member. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

meflick Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 Here is screen capture of the “Terms of Use” listed when you look at a pattern in the pattern library. The sentence regarding “commercial purposes” would be the one applicable for your question. With that said, you may find patterns in the library or shared here where even that could be a bit “murky.” I’m thinking of a pattern of a celebrity as one example. As Wichman said, getting permission from a pattern designer who is no longer active, and possibly gone would be impossible. That is why if someone is sharing a pattern, it is always a good idea to put terms of use directly on the pattern as well as designer name and contact information. If there are no limitations on pattern use, even for commercial usage, that would be great to be on the printable pattern. Danj84, OCtoolguy and danny 2 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 (edited) To make it easier for every one, I think the terms of use should say, Items made from patterns may be use for commercial use the pattern is not. Then the designer could decided if he/she wanted to post it or not. Or the preference of the designer should be a required part of posting a pattern. That would eliminate any guess work. There is always this mystery with copyrights, it should be a clearly written law. Edited December 29, 2022 by Scrappile John B and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote
Dan Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 I'm with Paul. It would be nice to have all the patterns in the Village library available for anyone to use for their business. Terms of use of the library could state that and a village watermark added to the patterns. Sounds complicated but if the designer doesn't state the terms I'm grabbing the pattern if I like it. I'll always credit the pattern designer if known. OCtoolguy, Danj84 and John B 2 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted December 29, 2022 Report Posted December 29, 2022 Have to be careful about copywrite and trademark stuff.. just because there is a free pattern doesn't make it royalty free to sell.. For instance some Fonts are copywritten.. the person that designed the pattern may have a license for said font.. but you as the end user don't have a license for said font.. some sayings are also copywritten.. I've always been in the understanding that patterns that are free to use on these sites are free to use however except for selling the actual pattern or copies of the pattern... but if possible it is best to ask each designer before hand..
