Mimi Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 Hey Everybody. I was asked to come up with some ideas for what is a good way to use the gun shells used at a military funeral. A customer has the shells from the 21 gun salute done at her sons funeral. I have no idea but I am sure you all can come up with some good ideas on how to display them. Thank you for your help. heppnerguy Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 I love your idea a lot. I think they could be made into a nice keepsake but unfortunately I do not have a very good imagination so I can not help you with this. I am anxious to see what others might contribute. After I see them, I know I will ask myself why I did not think of that. Dick heppnerguy Quote
ChelCass Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 Question: Does his mother have the flag that was on her son's casket? Perhaps you could make a shadow box with the flag, a picture of him and some of the shells.??? Quote
Dak0ta52 Posted February 26, 2023 Report Posted February 26, 2023 I was thinking a case for the flag with the shells encased in clear epoxy mounted along the three flats of the flag. Or display the 21 casings in clear epoxy below the flag.Flag and Casings.svg Quote
Clayton717 Posted March 22, 2023 Report Posted March 22, 2023 I have made a flag case and incorporated 3 of the shell casings in it. I have also made pens from the casings for the family. Quote
Wichman Posted March 22, 2023 Report Posted March 22, 2023 Make a wind chime; 7 strings, three shells each with the knocker made out of wood with an appropriate quote on it, the top could be a round piece with quote(s) on it as well. The top could also be a vehicle miniature, if appropriate. Quote
Scrappile Posted March 22, 2023 Report Posted March 22, 2023 Searched and here are a few that show the cartridges displayed with the flag. just some Ideas Quote
Gonzo Posted March 23, 2023 Report Posted March 23, 2023 When my Dad died we had the shells inscribed with his name, birthdate, and dying date. All of his kids, 13 of us, received one. And a few of the grandchildren did too. Has nothing to do with wood working but in my opinion, a neat idea. Quote
