They are pretty proud of their used ones though... My Hegner was sold as a used demo.  They did not state the age. I did not ask, but I figured one maybe two years of demo .  Very few wood shows so I figured little used and I would save $100.  They were having a promotion that was a free stand and free delivery with a new saw.  At least I was able to talk them into giving me that also.  When I received the saw the label was 2010!  I purchased a 10 year old saw.  But it was like new. No regrets, I love my saw.

I'd like to "test drive" a Hegner one of these days,, and a Pegas.  I have been about 25 miles from Artcrafter's on I-75 headed North many times.. thought about stopping in one time and see if Denny would let me take his for a spin.  Not sure the wife would find it as fun as I would.

@flarud, if you get a chance to test drive a Hegner, I suggest you do it with someone very familiar with the saw.  They take a little getting figured out.  At least it did for me and I almost had regrets about buying on.  But with help from Advance Machinery, I got it going and now the only saw I would trade it for is maybe a brand new Hegner.  But the one I have will last me the rest of my scroll saw lifetime.

They are definitely a different breed. Totally different from the link style of saw. I'm still not proficient with mine but mostly because I haven't taken the time to learn it. I keep falling back to my comfort zone.

I never test drove a Hegner but took one hell of a leap and purchased a new one. Crazy? Yeah, but….

i really like my Hegner. I didn’t have any trouble going from my Excaliburs to my Hegner. (Which is surprising, cuz everyone I know says I don’t like change. 😀)

I’ll take the blade clamp on the Hegner any day over the DeWalt, Excalibur, and Pegas clamps. Sure, it takes a few seconds longer, but when I’m scrolling, time means nothing to me.
Do I have to adjust the tension every time I change the blade? Yep! But once the tension is set, it’s set.

Yes, the table is small on the Hegner, but it hasn’t been a problem or hindrance yet, nor do I expect it to be.

In short, Since I’ve purchased my Hegner, I’ve been looking for another one (albeit, used) and plan on getting rid of both of my Excaliburs and DeWalt.

It took me a very long time to get used to the Hawks and just like Paul said.. I almost thought I made a mistake. Fortunately for me the first one only cost me $100 and with so many reviews of people absolutely loving the saw I just knew it was either me or the old worn out saw, and it was a little of both.. Took me close to a year to get used to it mostly because if I had a rush job to make I would go to my comfort saw ( DeWalt at that time ). Most things today are made on my Hawk but I do still have certain projects that I fall back over to the Excalibur to do..

All that said above, I pretty much slid right in the seat on the Hegner and no issues at all but that it probably because I was used to the same style saw with the Hawk. My biggest learning curve on the Hegner was clamping the blade, which was only the first couple times fumbling with the wrench and holding the blade etc.. which is to be expected with any new saw with different style of blade chucks.

I do recommend test driving any saw before purchasing if possible.. That there is why I never jumped in head first with buying a brand new Hawk or Hegner.. nobody around that had either one to test out. That's a lot of money to drop if you end up not liking it but buying a used one at a good deal you can get your money back plus make some money sometimes depending on the deal. You do have to be patient doing it this way though.. Took me a good 3-5 years to find a deal on my first Hawk.. probably a good 10 years on my Hegner.. these don't pop up around my area like they do in other locations..

I purchased my hegner as a used machine, the bloke who sold it said it came from a school  where it was used in wood  class for about 10 years, well  that was about 15 years ago and it's  still  going strong, the only thing I replaced  on it is the top clamp, I changed from  a standard one too a quick  clamp, real game changer

You should stop in and see Denny. Your wife can look around the shop while you are test driving the Pegas and Denny and his wife are quite happy to have folks stop by for a chat. I went by one time, a long time ago now and enjoyed meeting them and chatting and checking out all the things in the store.

I've had my Hegner 22 for 3 years now. I find bottom feeding to be a snap.  The blade slides out so easily that I can insert it into a pilot hole and replace it on the saw faster than fumbling by feel, as I did with my Excalibur.

The standard clamps are the best of any saw; however I still can't reach the "high C " sound on the Quick Clamp without blade slippage.

I honestly think, if everybody had a Hegner to begin with and really learned how to use them, the other saw makers might go out of business. They truly are a great product.

So in Conclusion I just want to say.  Younger Brother gave me his 1998 18" many

years back.  From the start I felt so Comfortable.  Blade change is a Piece of Cake.

Just Seconds to change a blade.  So Smooth with very little to No Vibrations.

Can stand a Nickle up on its side and turn the saw on.  Have had this saw since

2006 when I got started with Scrolling.  Oh yea first 3 saws were purchased from Lowes.  So you can imagine.  None lasted very long.  Hegner keeps on Purring.  :+}

I was able to do the same thing with all of my saws but my biggest problem was finding a nickel. It seems that coins are becoming scarce.
