Tallbald Posted March 1, 2023 Report Posted March 1, 2023 (edited) Hoping I found a good deal in these 1950's vintage birch veneer plywood cabinet doors at Restore, for $3 each. Full 3/4 inch thick. 30 inches tall by 15 to 19 inches wide. No voids found when trimming away the edge rebates. Appears to be 9 ply with maybe some poplar(?) layers. Had to remove the "hammered antique copper" hardware left on them, as well as lots of dust . Appear varnished but that can be removed. Hoping for lots of scrolling projects. Anyone with experience with this plywood? Does this compare to Baltic Birch plywood? Amazed at how thick the birch skin layer is on these old doors, compared to modern birch faced plywood I've bought to make desks and entertainment system cabinets in another life. I grew up with cabinet doors just like this in the early 1960's. Thanks. Don. Edited March 1, 2023 by Tallbald Add info ChelCass, OCtoolguy, crupiea and 2 others 5 Quote
Dak0ta52 Posted March 1, 2023 Report Posted March 1, 2023 I have re-purposed shelf and cabinet plywood but nothing of this quality. Looks to me like you got a deal. OCtoolguy and scrollingforsanity 2 Quote
Tallbald Posted March 1, 2023 Author Report Posted March 1, 2023 Thanks. I look forward to trying this plywood out. Elsewhere, folks have shared with me that this material requires a LOT of blades. I don't know if it's abrasive, very hard or what. I reckon I'll be finding out! Don. scrollingforsanity, OCtoolguy and Greatgrandpawrichard 3 Quote
