BadBob Posted October 22, 2023 Report Posted October 22, 2023 I love my Brother laser printer. I've used it for eight years with no issues until yesterday when the fuser roller went out. Parts are readily available from many sources, including Amazon and eBay. The fuser roller cost $17 for fast shipping and $8 if I want to wait a few weeks. Normally, I would opt for the lower cost, but with my luck, I would need to print many shipping labels, and no printer is available. I will also order the cheap roller and keep it on the shelf the same way I keep spare toner. No scrolling and no shipping labels until it is fixed. I also ordered a thermal label printer finally. I'm 100% Fedora Linux here and finally found a printer that works with Linux and fits my budget. LabelRange 300DPI High Resolution Thermal Label Printer Quote
kmmcrafts Posted October 23, 2023 Report Posted October 23, 2023 (edited) This is when I first bought my label printer ( a Dymo 450XL ) was when I kept having issues with my Epson printer and I had been getting a lot busier and using plain paper and having to cut and tape 30+ labels a day was getting old.. When the printer came up on sale for just over $130 ( black friday deal ) I grabbed one up and haven't been disappointed one bit.. Even comes in handy in a pinch for printing a single custom order ornament design so I still get the peel and stick label and not having to use a full paper and spray glue or waist a full sheet label for one ornament.. The rolls of labels for certain model thermal printers can be pricey too.. I buy aftermarket or sometimes called private label no brand? rolls from eBay and have not had any issues.. usually get 4 rolls of off brand for the price of one roll of the Dymo brand. EDIT: Can't you build a windows system within the Linux system to be able to use programs that are not supported with Linux? My kid does this sort of thing.. He says Linux is a better / safer system.. He also doesn't like windows systems..but he does build a windows inside of Linux to use certain programs etc.. Edited October 23, 2023 by kmmcrafts Quote

Yes, I can, but I don't want anything to do with Microsoft. I have more than 30 years of experience with Microsoft products and they are horrible. kmmcrafts and GrampaJim 2 Quote
GrampaJim Posted October 24, 2023 Report Posted October 24, 2023 When my printer went down a couple of yours ago, I sent the shipping labels I needed to the people next door (sent as PDF) for them to print on plain paper. Then I just glued the paper labels to the boxes, covered the labels with clear packing tape. Not the best but it kept me out of trouble. Quote
BadBob Posted October 25, 2023 Author Report Posted October 25, 2023 My label printer got here yesterday. It works great and is very easy to install. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
BadBob Posted October 27, 2023 Author Report Posted October 27, 2023 I purchased labels and a stand for the printer. Shipping and 1x2 labels for identifying stock with SKUs and a brief description. It is easier to change labels than it was to feed them through the laser printer manually. The printer is fast. It prints the label before my laser printer can finish its warm-up cycle. I needed the stand for the 1x2 labels that are only available in rolls. My Brother-HL-3170CDW has been repaired and is working like new. There were several videos on YouTube demonstrating the procedure. Every one of them was missing steps. The cost to repair was about $18.00. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted November 3, 2023 Report Posted November 3, 2023 Yeah my label printer is way faster than my Brother laser printer.. I like the rolls of labels because when I have several orders to print labels for I can just go through and print all of them and don't have to worry about not dropping one of the sheets or misplacing a sheet as they're all together on a roll when they come out, LOL. Just package the orders in the order they're on the roll. The label printer can print 30 labels well before the other printer can print off the packing slips / receipts. LOL. BadBob 1 Quote
