jimmyG Posted December 1, 2023 Report Posted December 1, 2023 This post has nothing to do with scrolling except for the fact that an event 8 years ago, and my actions afterwards, made it possible for me to be here today typing this. 45+ years of smoking was the leading cause of my widow maker to be 99.9% blocked, having a heart attack, and was minutes away from expiring, and getting three stents. From that day on I never touched another cigarette... 8 years, 58,430 cigarettes not smoked and a savings of $24,103.00 so I traded in my 15 year old Accord and purchased a brand new one yesterday to celebrate. So yeah, I'm glad to be here today enjoying life, my new hobby and meeting some "really" great people. My advise, if you're a smoker, quit please! Dan, JackJones, barb.j.enders and 6 others 8 1 Quote

OCtoolguy Posted December 1, 2023 Report Posted December 1, 2023 I started at 13 and smoked for 32 years. I quit on New Years Eve 1988 when I ran out of smokes. I went to a machine in the hotel lobby and it was $2.65 a pack. Haven't touched one since. So glad I quit. Thanks for your post and.congrats on your new car. Hope it burns gasoline. Quote

ChelCass Posted December 1, 2023 Report Posted December 1, 2023 Congrats on all your achievements. I was one of the lucky ones that never started smoking. Both parents were heavy smokers (dad 3 pack a day mom 2 pack a day) and for some reason I just never picked up the habit. I count my blessings every day. kmmcrafts, jimmyG and OCtoolguy 3 Quote
Peter N White Posted December 1, 2023 Report Posted December 1, 2023 Stopped on my 40th birthday was 2 packs a day could not afford it now $40.90 a pack of 20. OCtoolguy and jimmyG 1 1 Quote
Bill WIlson Posted December 1, 2023 Report Posted December 1, 2023 Congratulations. Your reward is well deserved. Both my Mom & Dad smoked. Mom quit before I was born, but Dad smoked until I was 10 or 12 years old. I remember he ate Wintergreen Lifesavers as his substitute for cigarettes. That was over 50 years ago. Neither I nor my brother or 2 sisters ever smoked. jimmyG, OCtoolguy and ChelCass 2 1 Quote

JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted December 1, 2023 Report Posted December 1, 2023 Great story and congrats all around. There is not one good thing that comes from smoking. Not one!! My Dad smoked for at least 40 years till he stopped. then went to chewing and then stopped all together. After a triple bypass is what did it for him. It gave us many more years to be together before so many other health issues took him. I never did take it up and glad I did not. It is a dirty habit. Good luck with the new vehicle. You earned it. Marg I guess as long as the Government can receive their tax money cigarettes will never be classified as a drug. It took long enough for them to realize pot was a taxable gold mine! wombatie 1 Quote
