This post has nothing to do with scrolling except for the fact that an event 8 years ago, and my actions afterwards, made it possible for me to be here today typing this.

45+ years of smoking was the leading cause of my widow maker to be 99.9% blocked, having a heart attack, and was minutes away from expiring, and getting three stents.

From that day on I never touched another cigarette...  8 years, 58,430 cigarettes not smoked and a savings of $24,103.00 so I traded in my 15 year old Accord and purchased  a brand new one yesterday to celebrate.

So yeah, I'm glad to be here today enjoying life, my new hobby and meeting some "really" great people.   My advise, if you're a smoker, quit please!

I started at 13 and smoked for 32 years. I quit on New Years Eve 1988 when I ran out of smokes. I went to a machine in the hotel lobby and it was $2.65 a pack. Haven't touched one since. So glad I quit. Thanks for your post and.congrats on your new car. Hope it burns gasoline.

That was cheap compared to what they are now.

Great story and congrats all around. There is not one good thing that comes from smoking. Not one!! My Dad smoked for at least 40 years till he stopped. then went to chewing and then stopped all together. After a triple bypass is what did it for him. It gave us many more years to be together before so many other health issues took him. I never did take it up and glad I did not. It is a dirty habit. Good luck with the new vehicle. You earned it.

Sound like my kind of person, LOL.. Congrats on quitting...  something I never picked up was smoking or drinking all the youngsters that used to tease me about not smoking or drinking now wish they had been like me.. many struggle with addiction from one or both

Glad you are still here with us.  I stopped smoking in 1995 after 20 years.  Have since had 2 stents inserted.

I wanter to quit for years especially when the prices got crazy high.  It's  sad it took an ambulance ride and almost die to slap some sense into me!

Cigarettes were around fifty cents a pack when I started in 1968.. Back when gasoline was about the same price oer gallon.

When I was 16 in 1959 I'd pull into the cheapo gas station with my 50 chevy and buy 4 gallons of regular gas and a pack of Lucky Strikes for a dollar.

It's funny how the craving has gone but I do still like to smell them burning and one slip up could be trouble!

A pipe still smells good but cigarettes and cigars are now offensive to me. A stinky ashtray is the worst.

My main artery down to my right leg was completely blocked, so it took me almost losing my leg to make me quit.

I guess as long as the Government can receive their tax money cigarettes will never be classified as a drug.  It took long enough for them to realize pot was a taxable gold mine!
