edward Posted December 6, 2023 Report Posted December 6, 2023 Just wondering how people hang there plaques when the backer is !/4" and the project is 1/8" which is to thin to use a sawtooth hanger with the nail coming through or using another hook with a screw. Quote
Dak0ta52 Posted December 6, 2023 Report Posted December 6, 2023 I use Hillman hangers. This link has 10 packs of 6 (total of 60). The barbs are not long enough to go through 1/8 plywood. I also add epoxy to help secure it to the piece. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P3UE3U?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details OCtoolguy and jimmyG 2 Quote
munzieb Posted December 6, 2023 Report Posted December 6, 2023 Ive done this on several thin projects like boxes and some plaques. I stop drill on recess hinges where the fretwork on the box (1/4") is close to the hinge. I'll wax the screws and tap into the hole but not go through the wood. Then I will take a vice grip plyer on the screw over to my grinder and grind it down to where it is short of going through the work. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted December 6, 2023 Report Posted December 6, 2023 I have used the sawtooth hangers, but epoxied them to the backer. None have fallen off the wall yet. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I use 2 of them directly on 1/4" plywood projects with picture wire between them to hang. A little pricey but worth it! OCtoolguy 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted December 7, 2023 Report Posted December 7, 2023 I use the saw tooth hangers and just glue them on. I tend to use a gorilla glue product. OCtoolguy and jimmyG 2 Quote
scrollerpete Posted December 7, 2023 Report Posted December 7, 2023 Silicone works great for me with a sawtooth hangar OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Wichman Posted December 7, 2023 Report Posted December 7, 2023 I use Hillman brand screws, I can get #2 x 1/4" at the local Lowes OCtoolguy 1 Quote
crupiea Posted December 21, 2023 Report Posted December 21, 2023 I have some of those little metal hangar things with sort of prong you pound in. These prongs will be too long so I first glue a small piece of 1/8" scrap onto the back of the piece. once thats dry I can pound in the hanger and it stays put. OCtoolguy and jimmyG 2 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted December 21, 2023 Report Posted December 21, 2023 I have been hanging lots of things like Intarsia, plaques and even a Jewelry holder that hold up 14 necklaces with 3M command Picture hanging strips. Usually use 2 but I have used 3 on the Jewelry rack. https://www.amazon.ca/Command-17206-12EF-Picture-Hanging-Strips/dp/B00LOQMCDM/ref=sr_1_11?crid=3NA3KWIHOLUAK&keywords=3m%2Bhangers%2Bfor%2Bframes&qid=1703130375&sprefix=3m%2Bhangers%2Caps%2C91&sr=8-11&th=1 OCtoolguy 1 Quote

If so you can use a wood workers vise and a couple of magnets to press in the barb. The shop I worked at had a commercial version, so I stole the concept. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
bryon c Posted December 22, 2023 Report Posted December 22, 2023 I use a couple of small staples over some twine works great jimmyG 1 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted December 22, 2023 Report Posted December 22, 2023 I buy the flat backed sawtooth hangers and glue them on with E6000. Holds fine. Quote
glenwood Posted December 23, 2023 Report Posted December 23, 2023 Another vote for string and staples, never had one of my hangings fail yet. Quote
81Shaun Posted February 29, 2024 Report Posted February 29, 2024 New to all this and trying to hang 1/4" wood and think I'm going to go the staples twine route but what exact staples and twine do you use? and is that for just a regular staple gun? Sorry to bring back up a old thread but figured I would do so instead of starting a new one. Quote

I use the nailess sawtooth hangers. The small ones have a less than 3/8 inch drive in points. Just don't locate where a cutout is. Personally, for panels with 1/8" cut panel and a 1/4" backer, I would frame it. If it was an irregular shape plaque, I would use a 1/2" backer. Or, add a 2nd retangular backer and a frame. Quote
