So, remember the trivet I made below?
Well, [bad word, bad word], I accidentally broke it apart when another item on the top shelf fell down on it on the table it was sitting on. {more bad words}
I was able to glue it back together, but could not bring myself to sell it full price, so greatly reduced it and let the buyer know its condition when he expressed interest in it.
Which brings me to the realization I need to find/make a better-safer way of displaying my offerings.
Any similar war stories and/or suggestions I am open for.
P.S.  Had a surprisingly good two-evening sale, selling some things I've had for two years.
It helps make up for the Heat-pump being out of service these last two weeks and on emergency (electric) heat.  (lots of bad words).
Yes, I know, it could be worse.  But I still don't have to like it.  And I don't.
And thanks for listening. 🫠

I have changed strategy on display stands over the years due to what I was selling. Many years ago I sold alot of large items so I had an 8 foot board that I had a piano hinge in the middle and use to use that in back of my display. I made a couple easy stands that the board slipped into and I screwed it to the stands so it would not move. I would label each are where I need to use screws to hold the items. It was alot of work setting up the display but I always was dealing with 2 8 foot spaces because of all the stuff I was selling. My brother use to help me at most shows. I then did away with the back board and just use shelves now that are easily broken down. Still need 2 8 foot spaces but takes less time to set up and break down. here is my latest setup I used a couple years ago at my last show. have not did any shows since pandemic because none of my shows came back.

Joe,

     Last year I broke several wands when they fell off my display ( attached with magnets, wind would take the display off the canopy legs ) the year before a child snapped a wand ( I was able to repair it). This year I broke that wand again ( unable to repair this time ) broke another wand ( I was too rough in handling the wands ), an older couple who help with the market broke my business sign, I dropped several ornaments while finishing ( they did not survive )

One show I did that was a outside show there was a couple early teen boys playing around playing tag and the one boy jumped toward the other so the other boy turned to run the opposite direction and ran smack center of my booth table and flipped the table over on it's side and all stuff on the table was on the ground.. The boy turned and said sorry as he and the other boy ran away.. By the time I gathered my stuff and somewhat set back up it started pouring rain.. I'll never do an outside event again.. was the first and only one I ever did..

The next show was at a church and I had some knife shaped letter openers.. very sharp by the way. and a little boy about 7-8 years old took one and ran to the other end of the show to show his mother.. Now I love kids.. but I hate a parent that doesn't discipline children and I've had many cases involving kids doing dumb stuff that they know better or should know better.. This had ruined doing in person shows for me..  Don't know about you guys but when I was raised I was taught not to touch stuff and f I did and something broke it.. I would be working to pay for it for a very long time, LOL.. I taught my kids the same... but in my area anyway.. kids run their parents and at shows they tend to have those little hands all over everything I have laid out right in front of the parent and the parent says nothing to them.. I'd love to go back into the craft show scene but for me it'd have to be a adults only show, But honestly.. a lot of adults aren't much better...LOL.. can you blame me after my experience's... LOL

I get some real winners for online customers but it's much easier to ignore stupid people over the internet than in person, LOL.. and at least they aren't breaking my stuff and just say sorry as they walk away..

Dang!  I should count my blessings then.  Thanks for the eye opening possibilities.

So far, I've been lucky in that area.  Only other thing that's happened was when I was setting up for this last event and the owners dog got into one of my boxes on the floor I had just unpacked.  He had one of my pieces in his mouth.  I was able to retrieve it before his damaged it.

I always loved seeing your work Dave. You are one of my favorite woodworkers here. You dabble in alot of things that require more than scrolling talents. One of these days I have to try making your inlay boxes. Other than the boxes the 2 pieces that jump out at me is the Owl and that red and white star/flower hanging on the wall. beautiful work.
