TAIrving Posted February 22, 2024 Report Posted February 22, 2024 First question: how do you cut a bowling ball in half? If we get past that part there will be more questions. Sparkey 1 Quote

Makes sense how it was done here, gives more control on how you shape the bowl. Sparkey 1 Quote

TAIrving Posted February 23, 2024 Report Posted February 23, 2024 Thanks Paul @Scrappile, great video. Something to think about. Looks like good fun. He said that some bowling balls might have asbestos in them, I wonder how we could know if it did. And it caused a lot of wear on his cutting tools. Might be a reason to get a carbide tipped tool. Sparkey Posted February 24, 2024 Author Report Posted February 24, 2024 I doubt you will find one with asbestos. The inner part was hard on the tools. It was like hard cork or pressboard. I had to sharpen my big scraper 4 or 5 times to get down to the outer color. The color part cuts easy with a negative rake scraper but you have to go slow. Quote
TAIrving Posted February 24, 2024 Report Posted February 24, 2024 Thanks Rusty @Sparkey. It still looks like good, messy fun, just like a lathe project should be. It is on my list of things I might like to do some day. Quote
