Popular Post RabidAlien Posted March 18, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted March 18, 2024 No scroll saw used, so I don't think this fits for the Bragging Rights forum, but I'm still gonna brag. I made a picture frame. I hate making picture frames. But this one, I made this one with pride. Our daughter was diagnosed as Autistic Lvl 1 (Aspberger's, it used to be called), ADHD, ADD, and potential bipolar/schizophrenic. We've been struggling to get her moods on a more stable level with therapy, counseling, and medications, including some very emotionally draining ER and in-patient stays. She recently decided she liked a TikTok video in which a young lady did a quick montage of video clips showing her doing some oil paintings, and the kiddo decided she'd like to give it a try. I know parents are supposed to be proud of their kids' creations, regardless of how good (or, usually, bad) it is, but dang. This one, of the Northern Lights, is after about a week of painting. Lots of techniques still to learn and master, but I think she's got some real talent in this direction. On a brighter note, we may be getting her meds dialed in, and hte painting DEFINITELY helps keep her out of the dark places in her mind. Liz Weir, MarieC, TAIrving and 14 others 16 1 Quote
Dan Posted March 18, 2024 Report Posted March 18, 2024 Wow! That is fantastic. She had a knack for painting for sure. Of, the frame is well done, also. RabidAlien 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted March 18, 2024 Report Posted March 18, 2024 Beautiful painting. Glad she is finding something to focus on. Good frame too, dad!!! RabidAlien 1 Quote
meflick Posted March 19, 2024 Report Posted March 19, 2024 Beautiful work and great frame for it. You and she should both be proud. I’m glad she has been able to get the help and support she needs. I know it has been a long and difficult path for you all at times. Prayers that they can get her meds dialed in and she can continue with her paintings. RabidAlien 1 Quote

I've offered to teach her scrolling, but the noises put her off and she's terrified of how close her fingers get to the scroll blade. Which is funny, considering her past and the volume she keeps her earbuds set at to help block out the outside world. Quote
Liz Weir Posted March 22, 2024 Report Posted March 22, 2024 She did a beautiful job on that painting! My mom was an artist, she did oil and acrylic, and I can say that your daughter's painting is well above what would be "normal" for her age and experience level! RabidAlien 1 Quote
Hawk Posted March 23, 2024 Report Posted March 23, 2024 The painting is pretty darn awesome. She did a wonderful job!!! And you frame is nice too!!! RabidAlien 1 Quote
MarieC Posted March 23, 2024 Report Posted March 23, 2024 Thank you for sharing her work.....Really nice blend of colors in her painting. She has a good eye for color. She may enjoy taking "in-person" (not for grade) art courses where she can learn a ton of different techniques etc. and go at her own pace. Nice frame too! RabidAlien 1 Quote
