Allen levine Posted November 15, 2024 Author Report Posted November 15, 2024 Still need to sand more and then hand sand to smooth over some edges and sand down some transitions to other species like on tree branch to leaves Quote
meflick Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 Nice work. Intarsia tends to e a lot of sanding. I took class from Judy Gale Roberts and she was always having you sand More! Green is hard to find. Some people have found some "green" poplar at the big box stores (Home Depot and Lowes) in the past. I have never had that luck. Nothing wrong with staining something if it gives you the look you want for YOUR piece of artwork. Unfortunately, yellowheart has become hard to find apparently it is imported and is getting hard to get. barb.j.enders 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 Looking good Allen. You have this intarsia thing down. Quote
FrankEV Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 (edited) Very nice. If you realy want to color the leaves, I might suggest using a wood dye in lieu of stain. the dyed wood looks more natural. Dyes can be found online. It is extreamly concentrated and I tiny pinch goes a long way. Just a thought FWIW. Ocoochhardwoods.com has Yellowheart. Edited November 16, 2024 by FrankEV Allen levine and Scrappile 2 Quote
Allen levine Posted November 18, 2024 Author Report Posted November 18, 2024 Thanx frank i took a look if shipping is free I will be ordering some species from them i applied some lacquer today and picked out my next pattern and will use her book for one more i cut three pieces today and caught myself I used the wrong species I wanted to use. Not a big deal but I kick myself for silly mistakes like that FrankEV 1 Quote

Scrappile Posted November 19, 2024 Report Posted November 19, 2024 very well done. Ocooch Woods shipping is not free. I think the prices of their woods are pretty competitive. Quote
Allen levine Posted November 19, 2024 Author Report Posted November 19, 2024 Yeah it pays to order more as I saw shipping isn't bad when I get back I'm going to get some sampler packs FrankEV 1 Quote
wombatie Posted November 28, 2024 Report Posted November 28, 2024 You did a mighty fine job, well done. I don't intarsia because I hate sanding. Marg Quote
