Anyone looking to buy new toys this year for the shop? Have you seen any great deals out there?

I am on the Dewalt 20 volt battery operated platform of tools so yesterday I bought myself my Christmas present. I got the 7-1/4" sliding miter 20V saw and DWX 724 stand to go with it. I have a lot of trim molding to install throughout the house after I finish staining and finishing this winter. This saw is so light weight and gets great reviews so it will be easy to carry from room to room. Easy to take off the stand and put on floor when I will be doing baseboard moldings. Won't have to keep getting up and down. Not young any more. I will skip the wrapping paper though.😀 I bought it in Home Depot and was surprised they actually matched Amazon price which was about $90 cheaper.

I also saw on Amazon a small hand held router that I love and in fact I have 3 of them over the years I bought. I have dedicated to my lathe work. It is the Bosch Colt for $80. Anyone looking for a good trim router I highly recommend them. I use mine often.

Same router I have and has been a good one for me. I don't have any plans to buy anything in specific anyway. Though I just seen today that Omtec is running a pretty good sale on new and preowned lasers.. Can't afford the one I really want but the newer version of the one I have has some new nicer features and with the price of everything going up and the sale price I could sell my old one and pretty much pay for the new one, LOL.. so my wallet has been smoking since I see the deal.. not burnt a hole in my pocket yet but the more I think about it, LOL

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving

You too. Better get it soon if it comes from Canada, Mexico, or China. The Trump taxes will hurt. My saw comes from Mexico.

Good point that I hadn't thought of.. Yeah they are cheap China made lasers but work well so far, I might have to grab one up.

I have the bosch colt router as well.  I like it but I wish it was battery operated.  I am hoping to get a new hand plane ...a skew block plane with a fence.  They are pretty pricy, though. 🎅

You would have to pick a brand and their battery platform. I bought last year a 20volt Dewalt router. Have yet to use it but added the tool to my inventory. I have been building up the Dewalt line of battery tools. They are about the best on the market in the mid range price. Good quality tools. I think they are running about $160 just the tool. Amazon has tool only $145. Lowest price I have seen. But you need the 20 volt battery too.

Yes, I know Dewalt makes the battery small routers.  I do have quite a few Dewalt items as well and the batteries.  Maybe in the future I will buy the little router.  But right now I think I will keep using my little bosch and save my money for the skew hand plane....:)

I will always use my Bosch routers. I have their larger versions too but that colt is so handy. I have one set up just for my lathe where I use it on a platform I built to make certain cuts. Those type block planes are also a very handy tool. They are more versatile than people realize which you have enjoyed. Reminds me I need to sharpen the blade because I will be using for my moldings that I will be installing.

That's a sweet block plane.  Looks like a Lie Nielson.

I'd suggest looking for a vintage Stanley, but those things are pretty scarce and probably not a whole lot cheaper than the Lie Nielson.  I don't own any Lie Nielson planes, but they are generally regarded as among the best ever made.  Worth the price, as they are a lifetime tool that can be passed along to future generations.  Hope Santa grants your wish.

I bought a DeWalt Planer (DCP580B) and two 5 ah batteries on Amazon for $133.20. The planer's price was lower than anywhere else and wasn't a Black Friday sale.

I usually spend significant time looking for tool bargains; the planner was the only one I found. The price is lower this morning.
I did not find the planner using an Amazon search. I used Google site search: site:amazon.com DCP580

I do not consider 10% a bargain.

Keep in mind that many of the tools are made in China. If a tariff is imposed, the price will go up significantly. I found a reasonable price for the batteries and bought them for this reason. I have a lot of DeWalt tools.

When shopping for bargains, you must know the normal street price. Many Door Buster Black Friday deals at the big box stores are more expensive. The batteries I purchased cost much less than the same battery in the Black Friday sales.

Wow, that's a great deal.. Hard to beat the Dewalt line of tools..

Yeah 10% isn't much of a deal for me either, especially when many of these deals can be had throughout the year. Jet is an example.. many of their tools are only 10% off.. however they run a 10% off deal on most of the tools a couple times a year.. I got a HF gift card for my birthday and the wife kept saying, don't you want to go to HF for their deals, LOL.. they also don't run any super deals on the things I would be buying to make it worth the trip.. most of the year they're running some sort of sale and many times the 25% coupon makes it cheaper than and Black Friday deal.. so why fight the crowds for 10% deals.

That was a great price. Those batteries are more than that even on sale. Yes sometimes those sales just pop up. My Dewalt miter saw so far has not been beaten by my price. Saving $90 is a good deal. Means I can buy another toy. The Dewalt line of tools has been used in the construct industry ever since they came out. I remember using the 18 volt drills on job sites and the abuse they took was amazing and still kept on drilling.

Yes it is a Lie Nielson that I am looking for.  It has the fence which really helps to keep me from tipping the plane to the right or left so the board remains square.

Yes dewalt tools are good, my son is a dewalt tool junkie, that's all he buys, me I am a bosch man, RJ

I like the Bosch orbital sander and the palm router.. only Bosch tools i have but they have out performed any of the others they replaced.. I'm actually on my second sander now.. the first one lasted a very long time.. I replaced the brushes in it several times but eventually it gave up.. I think the armature? ( not a motor guy ) where the brushes ride on is what caused it's death as I ran a couple of the brushes really way too low before I caught it and it was rough shape.. replaced it with the exact same one because I liked the dust collection box way better than the one that I tried of several other models even the DeWalt dust bag thing is a joke compared to the Bosch.. so I had to go back to the Bosch sander.

While not really a Black Friday sale I did just pull the trigger on a new laser.. I bought the big boy laser this time and got one that'll cut / engrave a 20 x 28 area instead of my two small lasers that both only have a 8 x 12 work area.. Also got the water cooler for it and will be getting some accessories for it.. Maybe the rotary tool so I can engrave tumblers and etch shot glass and wine glass etc. Due to having my allergy issues and probably going to have to stop scrolling so much I need another way to make some money until retirement comes.. so instead of going out of business or scaling way back I chose to move forward.. No dust mask needed to run the laser as it exhaust smoke to the outside via a dryer type vent.. so this is something I can still do and stay in business while relieving my allergy issues.. Will still scroll some clocks or puzzles but anything made from thin wood will likely be swapped over to being cut on the laser.. so mostly ornaments and layered signs etc.. on laser or CNC while things that cannot be done on laser like the puzzles or clocks will still be scrolled.. I just can't set at the saw for hours everyday like I used to so I have to advance or shut down..

This is what I bought for anyone that might be interested in my journey.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/174803723237

This is cheap because of it being a clearanced out model.. a year or so ago this would be well over $3000 maybe even $4000 with the water cooler too.

I take delivery tomorrow..

I know there is probably going to be some haters here on this being a scroll saw site.. but I choose to stay in business rather than throw in the towel and go punch a time clock for the next 6 years before I can retire..

I have various sanders from different brands but all my scrollsaw career the one sander that I loved and they do not make any more is the Porta Cable line and it was the Bloc sander. I went through 3 of these over the years and the one I have now is hanging in there. It is a quarter sheet sander that keeps on ticking. I used those sanders for everything. Have gone to their orbital at times too but could not beat that bloc sander. I told my brother because he likes to go to estate and yard sales to keep eye open for one. Work horse for sure. tried looking for a photo on the web and can not even find one. 😀

Not me! I would have one if I had the space for it, and I'd also get a CNC router.

It was not a black Friday sale but a good price: $116. I have always been curious about this type of saw and could not resist.

ATOMIC 20V MAX Cordless Brushless 4-1/2 in. Circular Saw

I had a similar black and decker cheapy of one of these back several years ago before the lithium batteries came out.. It came in a tool kit I got from my inlaws and I originally didn't figure I'd even use the saw tool, however I ended up using that thing the most out of all the tools that was in the kit. Unfortunately someone broke in and stole the tools.. funny part was I also had a similar set of Hitachi tools.. They took the B & D tools and the Hitachi batteries and charger.. left me with B & D batteries and Hitachi tools, LOL Also the batteries were mostly junk.. hence why I ended up with another set for Christmas.. Probably did me a favor anyway as I did like my Hitachi set better but I still miss having that small saw. Been looking to buy the cheap one from HF since I already have a half dozen of their batteries and other cordless tools.

I have this same saw. I use it all the time. I leave it in the garage because I can always break down boards or plywood easier outside. It has some heft to it. I had an old Makita from the 9V line that I used alot but the blade on this is larger and more power. I made some down and dirty racks for my moldings that I will be staining in my basement this winter and this saw did all the cutting. Bought a bunch of furring strips real cheap and had at it. Used my laser level to strike lines as I built racks. Got about 5 tiers on them. Then I can do all at once and let dry for both staining and finishing. This summer I want to finish install doors and moldings and finally painting all the rooms. I want to finish this house already. I am getting too old. I have lot of tools in that Dewalt line now. Like them all. They should last a long time. well built.
