JimNC Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 Has anyone tried a power carving tool? I talking about the $80++ range tools. I thank I may have some use for something like this but I don't want to break the bank trying one out. I see the YUCHENGTECH Electric Chisel Carving Tool Electric Wood Chisel Electric Woodwo on ebay for $88 + S&H. Quote
TAIrving Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 It rates 3.4 out of 5 on A**zon and is not currently available. That's about as low as the ratings get. YUCHENGTECH Electric Wood Chisel Carving Tool - Amazon.com Quote
Sparkey Posted April 6 Report Posted April 6 I went to a woodturning symposium in Kentucky a couple of years ago. I went to a demo where a woman does a lot of carving on her turnings. She said she has used many different micromotors and likes Marathon Champion the best and they happen to be on the less expensive end. That is what I am going to buy when I buy one. Scrappile 1 Quote
Joe W. Posted April 12 Report Posted April 12 This past fall I tried my hand at power wood carving Dough Bowls from large black cherry logs, using tools from Arbortech. The are a bit pricy, but do have power wood carving chisels. They have several videos showing their tools in action. So far, I am a satisfied customer of the items I've purchased from them. Quote
JimNC Posted April 13 Author Report Posted April 13 Since I made this post I purchased a Yangtuodetou Electric Chisel Wood Cutter which came in a nice case with 20 Blades. I payed about $65 USA with free shipping through ebay. Seems to work OK and fun to play around with. Not sure at this point how it will fit into my woodworking but if it does I will look into a better tool. Quote
Jim Finn Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 The first time I started working with wood was 35 years ago and it was carving with gouges. I tried rotary tool carving/sanding and did not like it much. I then had a chance to use a foredom tool of a friend and liked that. It has a rotary tool and a carving tool attachments on a flexible extension with speed control. Not cheap but works well. I bought a little cheaper tool of this type called "Mastercarver" in 2011. ($300) Still have it and like it. I do not do much carving lately though. Quote
