Popular Post heppnerguy Posted February 9 Popular Post Report Posted February 9 As the heading states, this is not a bragging thing for sure. It is, hopefully, a start at trying to learn colorizing a scroll pattern. I have tried adding color to my scroll work several times and then I gave up. Recently I cut a project that is very detailed and I want to add color to it as I think it would make the project really stand out if I can succeed in doing it and not making a mess of things. I understand that with my great lack of artistic skills, I have a long way to go before I touch the project that I do not wish to ruin. If I ever get to a place where I feel I can accomplish my wishes with colors, I will take a stab at it and post it here. Don't hold you breath though as it could take a long time for me to get to that point, if I ever do. I am certainly open to helpful comments by anyone that thinks they my have any suggestions that my help me to reach my goal. I also tried to add some background items to try and see if it is possible to bring more interest to this particular piece. Just now as I was posting the two photos, I saw where I missed the beard of the moose. Dick heppnerguy heppnerguy Charlie E, Hudson River Rick, Dan and 17 others 17 3 Quote
ChelCass Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 Couple of suggestions. Unicorn Spit (read up on it) and Olympic wood stains. These might work for you. Olympic stains have a lot of great colors and this might be a good option. heppnerguy 1 Quote

Not sure I would be comfortable with them but sure worth the effort to check them out. Thank you for your input. I appreciate it a lot. Dick heppnerguy ChelCass 1 Quote

It takes time, effort and probably a lot of dissapointment to finally be comfortable with something new. I am planning of seeing if I can, at some time, feel like I am starting to 'GET IT', if you know what I mean. Dick heppnerguy Quote
Denny Knappen Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 I see the images are reversed. Is that the back side you colored? heppnerguy 1 Quote

I cut this quite awhile ago and it appeared to me I was originally showing the back side so one can see the difference the coloring made to make the project stand out more. Then I colored what I thought to be the front of the image and that is why the two are facing opposite directions. Dick heppnerguy Quote

It is an effort to hopefully develop a little skill so I will be able to color, successfully, the one I really wish to colorize without destroying it. That is why I am making several efforts by coloring some work that I was not very interested in and never framed or finished, and some that I had cut extra pieces that I really did not particularly want and were sitting on a shelf in my shop. Dak0ta52 Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 I've colored some of my work in the past but primarily kept the coloring to the areas I had cut. I really like that you added the trees and lake to this piece. That adds a lot and I applaud your finish piece. I can sit down with a pack of pencils and draw a picture that looks like a black and white photograph but if I try to color something with paint and a brush... well, lets just say a child with a box of crayons would create a better piece. Keep up the work, although I believe you have already learned the skill. Now start producing your masterpieces. heppnerguy 1 Quote
Hudson River Rick Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 @heppnerguy That is a great job on the coloring, Dick. Keep up the GOOD work. Thanks for sharing. Rick heppnerguy 1 Quote

I have such a difficult time caring on with the things I want to master, as you are most likely aware of, knowing me a little now. I am giving my efforts to the project I really want to color but not destroy. It could turn into a disaster but my patience is growing thin Dick heppnerguy Quote
