Hey everyone, like I mentioned on another post, I have been scrolling for about three years, and it is the absolute best thing I have ever learned. We are entering our busiest time on the festival circuit, as you can well imagine. However it now appears I may have to have surgery on both my wrists for severe carpel tunnel, and I also have pinched nerves in both elbows. I have heard both pro and cons on this surgery, the doctor has already told me that the healing time is going to be significant, so not sure how this is going to effect our show schedule. So I have two questions for you, first has anyone else had this surgery? And if so how well did it work for you?

I had Carpal Tunnel release Surgery on my right wrist 2 years ago and on my left wrist 5 weeks ago.  The left was a lot worst and when the Dr. removed the stiches yesterday I asked how long before I could start using my left hand again and he said 2 more weeks (so that will keep me inactive for a total of 7 weeks).  Like he said every surgery is different, my right wrist was not as bad and did not take that long.  I sure hope you are not planning to do both wrist at the same time, as you will not be able to even wipe your hinnie. :)

I haven't had it done, so I couldn't say.  But I'd agree with tvman44, I'm not sure I'd have both done at the same time.  If it incapacitates you for a long time, having no use of your hands will make life difficult.  Good luck with the surgery.  You'll be in our thoughts and prayers.  Hopefully it'll fix what you need fixed and you can scroll without pain.

Thanks everyone for your comments, encouragement, opinions and kind thoughts, I appreciate it very much. If this wasn't so bothersome after reading not only these comments but others I would simply blow it off, but sadly this is not going away or getting any better on it's own. Nice to have such a nice family of folks gathered around the dinner table, or should I saw gathered in the scroll shop. Thanks again everyone.

I haven't had it done either but I have two thumbs that hurt and I don't know if it is arthritis, carpal tunnel or over use changing blades. I have been able to continue for now so have not pursued a Doctor visit. got to consider knee replacement first I think. I too would not suggest both at the same time other than it would be 1 anethesia but they will charge extra anyway. My Brother did have both rotator cuffs done at the same time and carpal tunnel both sides after recovering from the shoulders. Not pretty care for him. Wife needs a medal.

Thought I would give you and update, the doctor called me late Friday, and I am to go up to the VA on Monday for wrist splints for both wrist, not sure if this is the final plan or a part of a much larger plan that involves surgery.

Jerry here's an option to having the surgery if you would like to try it --- Magnetic Therapy !!!!! I know it works wonders for carpal tunnel !!!! How do i know ??? my wife has carpal tunnel and was facing surgery 7 years ago. She wore the braces every nite and still was in pain or her hands were numb in the mornings. She was introduced to magnetic Hematite bracelets by a vendor freind that made and sold them at festivals and craft shows. It is amazing the releif she gets. She quit wearing the braces and we started making and selling the jewelry at shows. I'm not here to sell you any of our jewelry so lets get that clear right off !!! first off buy high quality ,high power or triple strength hematite bracelets, not regular or non magnetic hematite.Ask if every bead is magnetic !!!! Make sure that it is on strong line - we use 50 - 80 lb test mono fishing line and we melt the ends in a magnetic clasp. As far as price we charge $20 for a high power bracelet at our shows so use that as a base to go by. I use a necklace for my shoulders as i have rotator problems. I know you can find it at most every festival and it does work great plus there are no side effects whatsoever.just can't wear it with a pacemaker or a befibrolator or unsulin pump. Hope this helps you

This is what I have always liked about the village, it is a village of caring individuals, not only care for our art but care, concern and compassion for one another, thank you. So far the wrist splints appear to be working, I have been able to get back out in the shop and scroll for and extended amount of time (wearing the splints) without the numbness and associated pain kicking in. However it did take some getting used to working with my finger tips and not my hands. I have heard of those magnetic bracelets and will start looking for them at the festivals if I can't find them Sully I will get in contact with you if that is ok...

Hi Jerry:

Good luck with your hands -

Unlike Kevin who says that he can't imagine not being able to scroll

I can't imagine not being able to wipe my hinnie as Bob stated in his post.........

Not really sure which one is worse

Anyway, We are thinking about you Jerry -
