Vector01 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Hi All: Seems I've run across a glitch in GIMP. I was working on a new portrait when the brushes would not work anymore! I had been swithcing back and forth between different layers and making corrections as needed. I had regularly saved my progress as I went along. I then attempted to color in some areas and I could'nt get the black or white to work? I clicked on the color pallette to make sure that the color was selected and it showed in the toolbar window. I shut down the program and restarted and still nothing. Shut down the system and restarted. Still nothing. I really hate to remove and reinstall the program. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks Quote
Messman Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Vector, I see that you are already causing problems But seriously, I have not had this problem with Gimp. Are you running the latest and greatest version of it, or an older version? The newest version that I am aware of is version 2.6.6. Check and make sure you are running the newest version if not I would recommend that you get the newest one. Maybe Travis will have more insite into what is going on with you program issue. Something I just thought of, are you using layers? if you are double check which layers you have selected to work on, which ones are visable and their order. If you are working with layers and you have the layer you are working on under one that is visable you will not see the changes being made. I hope you understand that. Quote
Vector01 Posted June 9, 2009 Author Report Posted June 9, 2009 Hey! Yep...I have the newest version. I tried selecting different layers and making changes and still nothing. I'm going to check out the GIMP site and have a look see. Quote
Vector01 Posted June 9, 2009 Author Report Posted June 9, 2009 Hey! Got it! Opened another file...Brushes worked. Hmmm...Gotta be something simple. I went back to the problem file and checked the history on that layer. Ahaa! When I used the rectangle selection tool to clean up around the perimeter of the portrait, the tool never released. It would not allow me to do anything on any of the layers. I created another copy of that layer and voila, the brushes worked again. I'm still not quite sure of the proper way to release the selection tool after using it. I would think that as soon as you selected another tool it would switch over. Quote
Travis Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Yah. When you make selection, it will only allow you to paint within that selection. To get rid of a selection, press Ctrl+Shift+A to deselect. Then you should be good to go again. Quote
Messman Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I am glad you figured out what the problem was. I was at least kinda close to what the problem was ok maybe I wasn't Quote
