Wilson's Woodworking Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 I finally finished the brown pelican designed by Judy Gale Roberts and Jerry Booher. I used a piece of box elder for the eye, I liked the little black spot in the wood for the pupil instead of cutting a separate piece. The wood selection is Wenge, figured maple, walnut and box elder. bobscroll 1 Quote
heppnerguy Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Very nicely done. I like, not only your good work, but also you wood choices. Thanks for sharing your great piece of art. Now what is next ? and what is your plan for the pelican ? Just curios. Could make a perfect Christmas gift. Giving of ones work to an appreciated receiver is very rewarding and it is really fun to go to someone's house and see your work displayed on their walls Quote

Wilson's Woodworking Posted October 16, 2013 Author Report Posted October 16, 2013 This project is a gift to the girl friends mother. She is into sea shore type decor for her living room and always good to keep on the good side of the in-laws. Lol I have been working on some fretwork plates while I decide which intarsia project to do next. (Will post pictures when completed) I think maybe a puppy in a basket for a little more difficult project before I do a humming bird that is in the same book. I wrote a post a couple days ago on my introduction page but it still hasn’t appeared on that topic. ???? Oh well must have done something wrong. Quote
Bishop Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Looks great, love your choice of woods. Fantastic God Bless Homer & Carol Quote
amazingkevin Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I have posts to that don't appear and found out my mouse doesn't always click on something even though I try. Too soft a touch I attribute to. and this has been a problem for years. Can't blame anybody but my self. your pelicans have the machinist touch to them .I too gave three pelicans away to the same person as his nickname is pelican because of his fat double chin, lol you did a jam up job on them, very good work sir! vykus Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 That looks great, I agree with the comment about your wood choices, I really think they make the piece. Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted November 1, 2013 Author Report Posted November 1, 2013 I gave the pelican to the girl friends mother this week. She showed it to everyone in the house without letting them get it out of her hands and then put it directly in her suitcase. I think she thought her other two daughters in the house would have kept it. Lol. It will be headed to Portage Indiana at the end of the week. Quote
heppnerguy Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Danny, It is really fun to give some of your work to other and have them love them so much..next time you are showing some of your intarsia pieces or scroll pieces for that matter. tell them that you will sell them one for $$. I would sell that intarsia piece for $125 and most scroll items for $20 to $100. Why not.. it helps pay for materials and tools Dick heppnerguy Quote
