DonR Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 I just saw a news report that people are poaching the burls growing on the Redwood trees in California. Here is a related item from the NY Times http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/09/us/poachers-attack-beloved-elders... I can't believe that the money grubbing bastards would stoop so low. Please be careful where you buy your burl wood. don R Quote
browders Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 This is very sad. There is so much beautiful wood out there that a person can come by legally. Why is it that people have to destroy so much. Greed I guess. Rob Roy 1 Quote
mgour Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 unfortunately some peoples will destroy all nature for few coins. I advise you also to buy burls only from known distributors, you may pay a little more but it worth. Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 One word Sacrilege how can someone do that to such a long living thing. I hope they survive with no infection. They must have a buyer and he/she are as bad as the person cutting them. Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 They should be hung by the burl!!!! Those trees are a national treasure. Phantom Scroller 1 Quote

hippi Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 ya very sad when people do things like this it is every where I remember a couple years back in Hawaii some ultra marons just cut down some really rare ko trees and tried to sell it the ko tree is extremely rare Quote
Fay Prozora Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 We were at the Redwoods a couple of years ago and one of the gift shops had redwood for sale for a few bucks a piece. At that time I was not scrolling yet but now I wish I had bought some to make small objects out of. They had the wood in larger sizes too and some were cut so it could be scrolled. We don't even pick up any branches for fire wood for camping as we bring our own and most campgrounds have fore wood for sale and it is against the law to pick up a branch to use for fire wood these days. Trees are a wonderful treasure and should be replanted when they are taken down. They do that over here. When they log off an area they replant the trees that were taken. Take care. Fay Quote
