  1. Oh you lucky dog! I hear nothing but good things about the Excalibur. You're gunna have an amazing saw on your hands. I hear ya though. Its tough to part with that kind of money when its hard to save up anyway. But I always hear time and time again from woodworker..buy the best tool you can afford. The precision will be top notch, you'll get better results, enjoy it more, and it will last much longer. I bet if you treat it right, that saw will last a lifetime. So I think you'll be thrilled with your decision. Be sure to take pictures of you new saw for the rest of us to be jealous of.
  2. LOL...yah. Good point. I really work at my own pace which is sloooooooow. Maybe I should start tonight!
  3. How is it that it's the middle of July and I'm already thinking about Christmas presents!? Am I the only one? How many of you are making Christmas gifts this year? What are you planning on making?
  4. Boy, that turned out great! Nice job on the pattern and cutting. She's going to be giddy with delight!
  5. Great album. The mouse hole is really cute. You do some really nice work with furniture too. That computer desk and phone stand turned out awesome. Nicely done!
  6. Those turned out great. The chess pieces are really cool. I also really like the POW portrait. Nicely done! Thanks for sharing!
  7. That's awesome. Its so cool when you can sell your work. It shows you that folks really appreciate handcrafted items and that you're good at it. Congrats on the sale!
  8. That turned out really sharp. Love the suncatcher idea. I should make a few myself. Hrmmmmm....you're giving me ideas.
  9. Hi Steve. Welcome to the Village. I think you'll have a good time here. Lots of friendly and talented folks here. I think you'll fit right in. We have several members from the UK. This site is really turning into a global forum. Folks from UK, Austrailia, South Africa, Algeria, Brazil...boy, the list goes on. Its so cool that we can meet folks who share the same interest from all corners of the world. Anyway, welcome aboard. Feel free to set up a User Gallery (you can find a [tut]tutorial here[/tut]) and show off a little. I'd love so see some of your work. Jump on in and have some fun!
  10. Hi Marg. Here is a couple versions of the little critter. The first one is the normal picture, the second I adjusted the color a bit so its a bit more vibrant. Feel free to use either one. Let me know if you run into any problems. I'd be glad to help.
  11. Congratulations, Ron! Those are wonderful pieces, too. They certainly deserve recognition. I've been meaning to enter mine in our county fair too, but I always forget to sign up. I should put it on my calender for next year. Good job on winning. You'll be flying high all weekend!
  12. Those turned out awesome! My buddy and I started the largest Cornhole communities on the internet, CornholePlayers.net. I worked on it for a few months, then discovered scrolling and diverted my attention to building Scroll Saw Goodies. He pretty much took the reins and really made it what it is today. The site is huge now. Awesome instructions and their user galleries rock. Check him out when you get a chance. Looks like your boards would fit in very nicely. My wife makes cornhole bags on the side too. She probably knocks out 30 sets a week. I play every once in awhile. I notice I do a bit better with a beer in my hand. Helps my balance/wind resistance.
  13. I'm very excited to announce our newest feature...The Village Square newsletter! This will me a monthly publication of SSV that will feature informative articles, tips, pattern and project spotlights, SSV news and more! Each issue will be published on the first Monday each month with the first one being sent out on Aug 4th. Oh...did I mention it's free!? Subscribing is easy. Click the banner above, or click here to sign up. Your newsletter subscription settings can always be found in the main navigation at the top of the screen (under the + sign). You'll also be able to browse back issues of The Village Square. When you sign up, an email will be sent to your inbox. Inside the email will be a link to activate your subscription. You must click this link, otherwise you won't be put on our list and will miss out on all of the Village Square goodness. This should be a fun little addition to SSV. I hope you enjoy it. If you'd like to submit an article or tip for publication, you can contact Messman via PM. He graciously agreed to be our editor. Be sure to sign up! Let the good times roll!
  14. It was fun to read through your profile. Your 2 truthes and a lie is a tough one. I'm guessing your driving record is a lie. Mostly because I certainly couldn't afford the insurance!
  15. That turned out beautiful. Love the raw edge. It really adds to the piece. Nicely done!
  16. It has been a lot of fun meeting so many people who share the same interest as I do. One of my favorite things is clicking member profiles. It is a lot of fun learning where people live and their other interests. Since SSV doesn't require these fields to be filled out during registration, it often gets overlooked. So if you get a bit of time, fill out your profile and tell us a little about you. You can find it in the User Control Panel (left corner of the tan box at the top of the forums) then click the Profile tab. While you're there, you can also upload an avatar and create a signature. An avatar is a small picture that appears next to your name that represents you. They must be 64x64 and less than 15k. If you don't know how to resize your avatar, upload it and someone will resize it for you. A signature is the little box below your posts that has links, quotes, or whatever. Many of us use this area to link to our personal User Gallery. But this is also a great area for linking to your personal websites. Have fun with your profile. I know there are many folks who really enjoy reading them.
  17. Boy, that turned out really cool. You did a wonderful job on it. You pretend that you're an amateur at scrolling...I'm on to you! Great job. Certainly something to be proud of. Your SIL will love it!
  18. Absolutely beautiful! Amazing detail, wonderful subject. You did a great job on it. I have a few of your patterns in my cut list I look forward to cutting. Be sure to put a copy in your User's Gallery. That is certainly something to be proud of. Nicely done!
  19. Those turned out awesome! You're a great painter. And those ponies look like a lot of fun to play with. Your grandkids will love them! Nicely done!
  20. Yup. We'll have some cool SSV swag available for purchase. I can't wait to get one myself! I even put a design out myself that will also be available. We'll have a huge selection of sizes and styles. We also have baby clothes, clocks, notebooks, aprons, bags, coasters, and coffee cups. We're using Cafe Press as our print-on-demand service. This allows us to have a nice selection of products without keeping an inventory. I tried to keep the price down as much as possible (about $1 margin) and the prices seem fairly reasonable. Naturally any sales will help feed the hamsters that keep this website running.
  21. Hi John. Welcome to the Village. I'm glad you found us. You're patterns are great! You have a real knack for them. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with. Lots of friendly and talented folks here. I think you'll fit right in. Jump in and have some fun!
  22. That turned out really nice! I love that pattern too. You did a great job with the cutting. Wonderful album too. Thanks for sharing!
  23. Boy, that turned out sharp! Nicely done!
  24. Time to move the saw to the dining room table! If your family is anything like mine, we don't eat there anyway!
  25. Our little T-Shirt contest is coming to the end. Now for the fun part! The Voting! When looking over the designs, look at overall concept rather than artistic ability. The final t-shirt will be redesigned anyway to clean up the image and prepare it for printing. Choose your favorite 3 designs from the entries below. The polls will be open for 2 weeks. Then the winner will be announced and receive a copy of their winning design. Let the voting begin!
