  1. That sounds like a fun project. Will they be silhouettes? Or are you painting them up? Can't wait to see pics!
  2. I took a few pix of my work area. I have two areas basically. The basement room holds my scroll saw and crafty stuff like paint, and materials. My garage has my larger tools like bandsaw, drill press, and table saw. Unfortunately I didn't think to get pictures of my garage. But here's my messy workshop! This is my craftsman scroll saw. I use a folding chair because I'm too cheap to buy a good chair. I have the saw clamped to a workmate. I still have my saw high. I really like having the saw bed about chest high. I also have a old Mac that I don't use too much anymore, but every once awhile I need it. Two posters, a vintage Nightmare On Elm Street (Europe, I think), and a Harry Potter poster that I haven't hung up yet. I use TV trays a lot for work surfaces. Here's the next agle. This shows off a drafting table that I use mostly to hold works in progress, paint, and glue supplies. The tool boxes on the floor hold my craft paints and various other crafting tools. Darth Vader cutting was my very first cutting. Next to it is a police scanner which I listen to on occasion. This is the reverse view. My bookcase holds mostly craft and woodworking books. The table in the back holds mostly patterns I've collected. The boxes on the floor are full of video and film (I work in the film and TV industry as an editor....but you wouldn't know it by looking at my video podcasts...LOL). In the forground I have a stack of frames along with my dremel on top. I have some wooden cutout food toys that I'm making for my son stacked on everything.
  3. Ooo....brand new shop. OK. You can pass with a clean shop. I look forward to seeing your new place! I hope you carved out a nice spot for your scroll saw. But I have a feeling that won't be a problem...LOL. I'll post my pix tonight. You'll wonder how I get any work done at all...LOL
  4. Steve's a great guy! He's very generous with his time and talent. I don't know where he finds the time to crank out the patterns like he does, but it's pretty amazing! I really like his patterns. They're not the typical patterns you'd find on a website. I have a bunch of his patterns in my "To Do" pile....LOL...and it just gets thicker.
  5. That turned out awesome! A very nice display of your quarter collection. Did you have to buy a special drill bit to fit the quarters? Or is it a standard size? Good job!
  6. Hahahahahaa.... Done!
  7. OK, y'all. The garage hasn't thawed completely and spring cleaning hasn't happened quite yet. Things stack up, shoved where there's room, and teetering tower of projects are looming. Take a picture of your workspace in all it's gory glory. Don't clean up to impress us, because if your workspace is too clean, we know you're lying! Post your workshop pictures here! It'll be fun to see and will make the rest of us feel better about our own messy workshop. Have fun!
  8. LOL...dang, Christina! You're gunna be busier than Blame! I'm starting to feel like a slacker with my only big plan is to do an intarsia project! I guess I have a few other projects on my plate too. I have to finish my son's room (we're gutting it), and plant the garden. I'm also removing a deck before it collapses and kills a dog or something. I also have yard work, but I have that every year so that's not too big of a surprise. My wife's hours got cut in half, so money is pretty tight around here too. So we gotta keep life simple for the time being. That's really cool that you make your own cheeses. That's something I've been wanting to try too (I think my main hobby is collecting hobbies). It sounds like fun and I like variety in cheese. Plus I think it would be cool to make your own. As you know, I'm a homebrewer as well. I'm also learning to make breads (bread machine style), which is a lot of fun. I make my own icecream and this summer I'm going to try making my own sodas. Mostly rootbeer to go along with the home made icecream....mmmmm....rootbeer floats. I'd love to learn how to can...certainly a forgotten art. But I guess my garden has to do better than it has in the past. I guess a lot of us enjoy that kind of thing. We'd rather make it than buy it. Much more satisfying.
  9. LOL...wow. You got quite a list! You get more than 24 hours in a day? Sounds like a lot of fun, though. I look forward to seeing what you put together. Especially the lathe. I hope your hand is feeling better.
  10. That turned out great, Ron! You did a really nice job on the pattern. I usually cut 1/4", but I'm really liking the thicker wood! It adds a really nice demention to it. Nicely done!
  11. LOL...I'm a demanding guy, huh? Whenever you get a chance. There's no hurry. Those are such cool lamps, I'd love to see how they're put together. And don't worry about cleaning the shop. Seeing a messy shop makes me feel better about mine.
  12. Its starting to get warmer and summer looks like more of a reality. Do you have any big plans for the summer? A big scrolling project? Learn a new technique? Other woodworking projects? Attending a scroll saw picnic? What are your big plans for the summer? I've been saying I'm going to try some intarsia this summer. Unfortunately, my wife's hours got cut back severely so I might not have the money to try intarsia. So if that's the case, I'm going to try segmentation instead and color the wood with stains or dyes. Now if it could just get a wee bit warmer...
  13. Another great set! I love them! Could you do me a favor next time you put together some lamps? I would love to see progression pictures as you put one together. You can put them in the Works In Progress/Tutorials forum. You do such a nice job with those lamps, it would be fun to see how you do it. (We're after your secrets. )
  14. Hi willie! Welcome to the Village! Scrolling is a lot of fun. There's so many things you can do with such a simple tool, you'd be amazed. I think you'll have a lot of fun here. Lots of great and talented folks here. We have a few pen turners here as well! I haven't tried it myself, but as soon as I save enough pennies, I'm buying a lathe and trying it out! Anyway, we're glad to have you on board. I would love to see some of your work (it doesn't even have to be scrolling ). You can set up a User Gallery to show off some of your work. (you can find a tutorial here). Check out the Pattern Library too. We have lots of great scroll saw projects in there. If you have any questions, be sure to ask. Everybody's very helpful here.
  15. Here's an Easter puzzle set I did last year. 2 Bunny puzzles with 3 egg puzzles. Makes a nice centerpiece. Just cut from 3/4" stock and you're set. I colored the eggs with a watered down acrylic.
  16. Easter is sneaking up on us! I think its time for another challenge! This one is Easter themed. Entry is a snap. Just post a Easter themed cutting in your User's Gallery and link to it here! (If you don't have a User Gallery set up, you can find find out to set one up here.) If you're a pattern designer, spread a little Easter love and share an Easter pattern. Anything goes, religious, bunnies, or just spring in general! It'll be fun to see what y'all come up with. Happy Spring and Happy Easter everybody!
  17. I'm glad it worked for you! I use this technique all of the time, especially the gray pattern with black outline. But the great thing about this is you can customize your printed pattern to the way you like to cut. The next video I'll cover printing large patterns like 11x14" or large intarsia patterns. I'm going to try to record the episode this week (usually I do it on Sunday, but family stuff got in the way).
  18. Very cool! I really want to try this too. Be sure to share your results! can't wait to see it.

    HI

You can create an album in the User's Gallery to house all of your pics. It keeps them all in one place and makes it easy for you to show off your work. You can find a tutorial here). The first post has a video showing you how to create a user album, and the second post is a written tutorial. Let me know if you run into trouble. I'm glad to help.

    HI

Hi Flamo1! Welcome to the Village. There are lots of great folks here and we're glad to have you on board. I'm sorry to hear about your saw not working. That's pretty rough. But I'm glad you haven't lost interest. There are plenty of folks who design pattens when they don't have the opportunity to get to the saw. I have a very young family, so I'm in that boat more often than not. It won't be long before you're making sawdust of your own, though. If you have some pictures of some of your older work, I'd love to see them! Until then, jump in and have some fun!
  21. Is anybody a member of Scroll Saw Association of the World (SAW)? What do you think? I'm trying hard to figure out if membership is worth $25/year. Especially since there is so much info out on the internet for free. What are your thoughts?
  22. You have a lot of great stuff in there. I really like those canes. Do you make a lot of those? I've always wanted to try making canes and walking sticks. It looks like a lot of fun. Nice job on all your projects! I see you got your son's dog portrait done. Turned out great. I bet he'll love it!
  23. Well, I think I might have the Sand-O-Flex figured out. There are scores along the sandpaper so you would have tiny strips of sandpaper. I assumed when I used it, it would rip along the score lines. I doesn't. I went through with a utility knife and completing the score lines, so now I have those little strips of sandpaper. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, though. Hopefully this weekend I'll give it a go and let you know if it works better. I have a feeling it will.
  24. Here's that video I promised you. You can see it at Scroll Saw Goodies, or you can see it in the Pattern Maker's Lounge. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
  25. I'm doing an Inkscape video series on Scroll Saw Goodies. This first video explains what Inkscape is and how to get it. I go through and prepare a downloaded pattern (kindly provided by Clayton!) for printing. I do this technique each and every time I print a pattern and it works really well for me. Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help. Enjoy!
