  1. Where do you find this aluminum? Do you get it at a craft store? Or is it special ordered? I think it would be fun to play around with.
  2. That is a great looking workspace. I like the light right above your surface too. I need something a bit better than what I have. The light is pretty poor in my workspace. Great idea with the built in filter. I use the same system, but just a box fan with a filter taped to it. Nicely done!
  3. Check it out! Looks like Fox Chapel is publishing a collection of wooden gear clocks! I already pre-ordered it. Its something that I'd like to try someday.
  4. I have a mouse sander that I use on my portrait style cuttings. It only vibrates just like any ol' palm sander. I like it because its not too aggressive on the real delicate parts of the cuttings. I was wondering if anybody uses a random orbital sander on these kinds of cuttings and if they've had good luck with it? I have a random orbital sander, but have always been leery of using it on delicate work.
  5. That turned out awesome! I like the grain the way it shimmers a bit. Really adds to the energy of the piece. Nicely done!
  6. Oh No! I know they make some really nice saws. I know I've wanted one. That is so sad to hear. I hate it when the little guy is forced to close their doors, which happens way too often nowdays.
  7. Another beautiful lamp. Is that painted? Looks great! Do you have a slot for the panels to slide in? Or are they just glued to the corner blocks? Nicely done!
  8. If you find one of those, let me know. I want one too! LOL I'm glad your frames turned out OK in the end, Clayton. Trimming your work a little is a small price to pay to make all that work worthwhile. I look forward to seeing the finished product.
  9. That sounds like a great project! I can't wait to see it done. You're mom will really like that. Nothing better than handmade gifts. I've seen some of steve's frames. They look really sharp. I bet it would work really well with a rustic theme like old west or wildlife.
  10. Hiya, Flip! Welcome to the village. Lots of great folks here. Pull up a chair and chat awhile.
  11. My goodness. The header almost gave me a stroke. Well, as you can see, we have a nice little banner promoting contests and other internal news. I think I'm going to lunch now and decompress. I still have to work on the footer a bit, so it might get crazy again today. Or, maybe I'll leave the craziness until tomorrow.
  12. Hi Guys, I'm messing around with the forum layout. You'll see some weird stuff happening for awhile. Just ignore it. Its just me trying to improve the site. Hopefully I can get it to work!
  13. My wife would use it to clobber me over the head. Maybe it's best I don't get a lathe. That turned out really nice. Its a simple wood grain, but very effective. I think I like it somewhat understated. Especially for a mallet or bowl or something utilitarian. Is it dense enough? Or is it soft like pine?
  14. Hi Wisardd1! Welcome to the village. Lots of great people here. Pull up a chair and stay awhile. I look forward to seeing some of your work. We're glad to have you on board.
  15. Very nice cutting, Linda! That turned out very cool. Sylvia does have nice patterns. Good job!
  16. Now that's a very pretty wood. I bet that would be an awesome wood for turning. Lot of character.
  17. Hi Bill. I lived in LA for awhile. I wish I would have discovered scrolling back then. It would have been something I could have done in my apartment without the neighbors complaining too much. Anyway, we're glad to have you on board! Lots of great people here. I think you'll have a good time. I look forward to seeing some of your work.
  18. Boy. That's a pretty wood. I bet that would make some wonderful furiniture. It would also work nice for intarsia. I wonder how it cuts. I've been enjoying the series. Thanks!

    Birdhouse

Wow. That turned out great! The birds will be living in luxury. Nicely done! Is the pattern available online? Where could I find it? I would like to have something like that hanging in my yard.
  20. I personally just use pre-made wheels. I pick them up at any hobby store for a few cents each. But if you wanted to make your own, I would use a holesaw on a drill press. I'd also go through the extra step of clamping the wood to the drillpress table. When using a hole saw, the wood can easily get away from you. Also have a backer board so you get a clean cut on the backend. Here's a little trick to add a little dimention to the wheels. Use a smaller radias hole saw and just go down a little bit. Then switch to your larger hole saw to cut out the actual wheel. The smaller hole saw adds a nice dimention and makes it look like a wheel hub. You can use a router bit to round over the edge of the wheel, or just leave it squared. Both look nice. You can make a jig for a sanding disk. Basically you rough cut out the wheel, then use the jig to sand to the line and make it perfectly round. Other jigs can be made for bandsaws too. I'd just try the holesaw and see how that works for you. I've had decent luck with it. I noticed the quality of the holesaw does make a difference. My harbor freight saws didn't do as nice of a job as my dewalt hole saws. Hope this helps!

    new here

Welcome, theozz! We're glad to have you on board. We all have a pretty good time here. I hope you enjoy your stay. Lots of talented folks here and everybody's so friendly. I look forward to seeing some of your work! Welcome to the village!
  22. I think that's a good attitude going in. If you sell, great. If not, oh well. 'Course it would be pretty sweet if if you sold out. I think it would be a lot of fun to do. Gives you an opportunity to meet new people and talk about stuff you enjoy. Plus, if you make a little extra money, put it into the 'new tool' fund. Nothing wrong with new tools.
  23. Wow. That's actually a pretty good paint job. He must of had a pro do it. LOL. Could you imagine him going into a body shop with a scroll saw wanting it to be painted? I wonder what they thought. I would have had a nice flame job like they have on hot rods. LOL. Oh well. I don't mind the green at all. As long as it cuts, that's all that matters.
  24. The Pattern Library is freely available to all Scroll Saw Village members. We have some wonderful designs in there provided by our talented members. If you download a pattern from the Pattern Library, take a moment to thank the designer in the comments section. You'd be surprised how much this little act means. The more pattern designers feel appreciated, the more willing they are to upload more wonderful patterns. Everybody wins! Also remember, there is no bigger thrill for a pattern designer than to see their pattern cut! So upload a picture of the finished project to your User's Gallery and let the designer know. They'll get a huge kick out of it.

    horse

That turned out great! I love the wood you chose. The grain really adds to the energy of the horse cutting! Nicely done! You should upload a copy to your User's Gallery (you can find a tutorial here). That would make a great addition to your portfolio. Nicely done!
