Hi All. I'm happy to announce that our Ornaments For Charity eBook is now available! For the last 10 years, members of Scroll Saw Village have donated their talents to designing ornaments for this unique eBook of patterns. This year, we added 6 designers to design 30 additional patterns. The eBook is now 128 pages with 390 Holiday ornament patterns! You can download the eBook for free and check it out. If you decide to keep this amazing pattern book, we ask you to donate to your favorite charity (we're on the honor system here). Remember, this isn't about "buying" an eBook of patterns, it's about helping those in need. So dig deep when donating to your favorite charity. Please spread the word about this wonderful eBook of patterns. Post to your favorite social media, other clubs, and organizations. The more people who know about it, the more money we're able to raise for worthy causes. You can find the eBook here. There will be a tab on the navigation menu through Christmas. After Christmas, it will be moved under the Patterns tab in the navigation bar. Special thanks to the following designers for donating patterns to this year's eBook: @Travis @don in brooklin on @WayneMahler @meflick @RabidAlien @jollyred Happy Holidays, everyone!

Don't know how long this will last, so grab it if you see it at a good price. I've been seeing wild fluctuations in the price, probably as inventory updates. If you're not seeing it at $379, wait a bit and refresh.

Ooo....great tip. Thanks! You can find that here if you're in the market:

Check at the bottom of the page and make sure you didn't accidently group them. If they're grouped, you can ungroup them with Ctrl+Shift+G. To union them, marque select all of the parts of the ornaments, then Path>Union. Let me know if you run into any other issues.- 16 replies

Hi All. If you're having trouble with the Ornament Kit, you can post here for support, PM me, or email me at travis [at] scrollsawvillage.com. I think the #1 common issue that I'm seeing is that you need Inkscape installed on your computer in order to open and edit the ornaments. You can download Inkscape for free at Inkscape.org. Also note, that you need to have a working knowledge of Inkscape. You don't have to be a pro, but you should have the basics down. I tried to be clear about it in my description, but I think it's worth repeating. Let me know if I can assist.- 16 replies

Hi All. Last year, I created this custom ornament kit. It basically is a template that you can create personalized Christmas ornaments. Everybody seemed to really like it, so I created another version with all new designs for 2020! I like to think of it as a mini scroll saw business-in-a-box. With this kit, you can create as many custom ornament patterns as you want. You can easily personalize them with someone's name or date. You can sell your custom ornaments to friends and family, online places like Etsy, or for craft fairs and church bizarres. You can also sell custom patterns to your fellow scrollers! Here's an overview on how the kit works: I'm releasing it earlier this year because I had a few folks who wanted to get a jump on the holidays (I don't blame you!). I'm also putting the Personalized Holiday Ornament Kit 2020 on sale for 50% off through Cyber Monday! So right now, you can pick it up for only $10, which is a screamin' deal! It's my way of saying Thank You for being a part of SSV and making it such a great place to be. I hope you find it useful. Happy Holidays, y'all! 2020 Edition 2019 Edition (in case you're looking for last year's) Note: This ornament kit is meant for folks who have a working knowledge of Inkscape. You don't have to be an advanced user, but you should have the basics down. If you'd like to learn more about Inkscape, you can find my free online course here.

Mini Scroll Saw Business in a Box! Earn a little extra cash this Holiday season, and help pay for your scroll saw addiction...errr....hobby. Here's what would be included in the kit: SVG Ornament File - Inkscape SVG file that you can use to customize ornaments. (5 price-points in both $ & £) GIMP Promotion Banner Template - GIMP source file that allows you to customize your promotion banner with your name and picture. Note: This ornament kit is meant for folks who have a working knowledge of Inkscape. You don't have to be an advanced user, but you should have the basics down. If you'd like to learn more about Inkscape, you can find my free online course here. Here's an overview of how the kit works: Selling Ideas: With this kit, you can either sell finished patterns to fellow scrollers or crafters. Or you can sell finished ornaments. Custom patterns for fellow scrollers & crafters. (suggested price: $1-2 per custom pattern) Post to your Facebook (or other social media) that you make custom ornaments. Friends and family would jump at the chance to have a custom ornament designed and cut by you. (suggested price: $10-15 each). Take orders at a craft show, church bizarre or event. Or even scroll on-site. (suggested price: $10-15 each). Sell on Etsy or similar online handmade marketplaces. Just give yourself time to make and ship the items. (suggested price: $12-20 each) Fundraiser for a youth group, school, or sports team. (suggested price: $12-20 each) Or maybe, they’re just unique gifts for friends and family (suggested price: $0 each) Having Trouble with Union? There's a bug in the most recent version of Inkscape where Union doesn't work the way you'd expect. Check out this tutorial for a workaround:$20

Ornaments For Charity - Call For Designers
Travis replied to Travis's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Last year and the year before, we had 11 Designers. I'm hoping to get at least that many again. Do you think we can hit 15 designers? If so, that's 75 more patterns in this year's ebook to at total of 435 patterns. It's a great book to be a part of, and it helps those in need. I'm designing! Who else is in?- 14 replies

2020 was a strange and disappointing year, for sure. But we're not going to lay down and take it. We're gunna salvage it with an awesome Ornament For Charity 2020 Edition eBook! Who's with me!? We're continuing our tradition here at Scroll Saw Village by publishing our annual e-Book full of Christmas ornaments. This popular e-Book was featured in the Holiday 2014 issue of Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine. Our ornament designs are exclusive to this eBook and designed by SSV members. Anyone can download the ebook in exchange for a donation to their favorite charity. Our hope is that we'd be able to raise some money for very worthy causes and provide some cool patterns at the same time. *** But we need your help! *** We need some volunteers to design some ornaments. Each designer will provide 5 patterns (no more, no less) I ask that the designs are not made available anywhere else (this gives value to the e-book) They have to be designed specifically by you (no posting other people's patterns) Designs must be emailed (or PM) to Travis by Wednesday, November 25th (info below) A few things to keep in mind: Religious and secular designs are accepted. Other religions/traditions also celebrate this time of year, so let's not forget them. Keep detail and size appropriate for an ornament. Don't submit copyrighted or licensed patterns. The due date will sneak up on you quicker than you think. Please get them to me ASAP so I have time to work on them. What do you get in exchange? Credit for your design. The warm fuzzy feeling that you're helping others in need. Submitting your ornaments: Email the ornaments directly to Travis (travis [at] scrollsawvillage.com) or PM me. Formats accepted are JPG, PNG. Please keep the pattern in black & white only (no gray) . That way I can convert them easier when putting together the ebook. I prefer Inkscape files (SVG) if you can. This is ideal if you know how to use Inkscape. That way I don't have to manually convert them.

Autumn is certainly here. Leaves are dropping, the air is cool and the sun is low on the horizon. Some folks are getting snowed on. November always has me appreciating the change of seasons. Remembering the summer days, and looking forward to the Holidays ahead. This month, our scroll saw challenge is themed, Autumn. Post your scroll saw projects that say autumn to you. Is it potpourri boxes, candle holders, leaf trivets? Get creative. And when you post, tell us a little about it. I really enjoy the stories behind the projects. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

That turned out really nice. I use my laser mostly for embellishments/engraving on my woodworking projects. I also use it to mark my name/date on projects. Anyway, engraving messages is a great upsell that doesn't take long once you have things dialed in.
