  1. Uggg...that's stupid. How dense does a person have to be. First off, the video is in NTSC, which is not the format Europe uses (they use PAL). So its not even viewable unless you have an expensive converter. Plus he copied all of my copy and pictures from my ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/Making-Scroll-Saw-P ... 3358c5dce7
  2. As of today, Scroll Saw Village turns 1 years old! Since then, we have grown to 2067 members. We have 2078 topics with 11960 posts. We also have 2027 finished projects in the User Gallery and 811 free patterns for our members to download. We've served 1,137,877 pages to 89,308 visitors. But I think the most important aspect of all this, we've built a wonderful community. This is such a great place to hang out with friends and share our passion. I know I've made many new friends along the way. I wouldn't trade it for the world. So thank you all for making SSV what it is today. Lets see what next year brings.
  3. It looks like you did a good job on it. Its certainly a tricky picture to pull a pattern from. The flash from the camera probably washed out most of the shadows, which we depend on. I know you already have it cut, but I gave it a try anyway. This is what I came up with.
  4. Its a little early for me to wish everybody a Happy New Year, but since I'll be too busy getting to the bottom of my martini glass tonight, I thought I'd wish everybody a Happy New Year! You've all made this a wonderful place to hang out. Cheers, y'all!
  5. It really comes down to the kind of paper you buy. If you get quality photo-paper, your pix will look amazing on inkjet. For printing patterns, it really doesn't matter that much. Laser looks really nice, but inkjet is much cheaper (both the machine and toner). If I was you, I'd just stick with inkjet unless there's a specific reason you want laser.
  6. That's too funny. I hope your "lovely little case" had a picture of Hello Kitty on it, because Hello Kitty is my favorite!
  7. Thanks for the help, everybody. The auction is still going. Its hard to say if anything will happen because of the complaints, though. I'll keep an eye on this user and his auctions. Unfortunately, I can't set up a UK ebay account (you have to have a UK address/paypal account), so I can't message the user. I'll have to keep hounding ebay about the copyright infringement. That's the best I can do. Hopefully something will be done about it.
  8. Don't worry, I'm not going to do anything drastic like shut down the site. I'll just have to change the way I do things a bit. Naturally, I'll do everything in my power to shut down illegal sales. I'm pretty good at tracking things/people down on the internet. We'll see how it goes.
  9. It doesn't look like he has my GIMP DVD, just my Inkscape DVD. Luckily, I branded the heck out of it, so it will still drive traffic. I just hate the idea of someone making money off my hard work. If anybody has a moment or two, could youreport the auction as copyright infringement? You can find a link that says Report Item. Its on the right below the Seller & Item Info. Its hard to say if anything will happen because of it. The best I could hope for is they'll suspend his account. Looking through his other auctions, it looks like he bootlegs a lot of woodworking stuff. I see some magazine archives that sell for $40-$50/DVD and he's selling them for 10 pounds. Obvious that he's copying them.
  10. Hi Al and Toni. Welcome to the Village. We're glad you found us. Lots of friendly folks to talk shop with. I think you'll have a great time here. Feel free to set up a User Gallery (you can find a [tut]tutorial here[/tut]) and show off a little. I'd love to see some of your work. Anyway, welcome aboard. Jump in and have some fun!
  11. I must say that I'm getting rather discouraged. I just found someone in the UK that is bootlegging my Inkscape and GIMP DVD's on the UK eBay. They even took my complete eBay listing word-for-word and product shot to post their auction (I also sell the DVD sets on eBay). Granted, the videos and tutorials are free to download. But I use the money from the DVD's to offset the substantial cost to run this website (and sister sites). I reported it to eBay. Who knows if anything will become of it. Just makes me wonder if its all worth it.
  12. Dale sent out emails on Nov 28th with your recipient's address. If you didn't get the email, you can contact Dale again for the address. Its not too late to send stuff out. Consider it a New Year's gift. Anybody else have a Secret Santa gift to show off? I'd love to see what y'all got.
  13. Now that Christmas is over, I think its time to for another contest! This time, lets focus a bit on puzzles. Puzzles are a lot of fun to cut and always a welcomed gift. This contest is open to everybody on Earth (however, special arrangements can be made for those outside our galaxy). This contest is sponsored by Dale's Puzzles. He was kind enough to donate patterns for 1st (10 patterns), 2nd (5 patterns) and 3rd (2 patterns). Entry is easy. All you have to do is cut a puzzle, take a pic, and post it in your User Gallery. Make sure you post a link to it in this thread. Entries can be anything, as long as its a puzzle; a free standing puzzle, a jigsaw puzzle, tray puzzle, brain teaser puzzle, or (if you're really ambitious) a Japanese puzzle box! If you'd like another shot at winning one of these sweet prizes, you can also design a puzzle for our Pattern Library. We'd really like to expand our puzzle offerings, so this is a great way to enter and help out SSV at the same time. So here's the rundown. The contest will run from January 1st through the morning of February 4th. You can get one entry for a puzzle cutting and one entry for a puzzle pattern for a total of two entries. The winner will be drawn at random, live in the chat room on February 4th at 7pm MST. I'll turn on the webcam and pull some names from the hat. Special thanks to Dale for sponsoring this contest. He has a ton of really cool puzzle patterns on his website, so be sure to check him out. If you decide to make a purchase, please thank Dale for sponsoring this contest. Without him, this contest would not be possible. OK. Here's the fine print. - You can only get a maximum of 2 entries per person. Links to your pictures and/or patterns must be posted in this thread to be entered in the contest. Creation of additional accounts to increase your chances of winning are strictly prohibited and may get you banned (we can tell these things). You'll have 2 weeks to claim your prize. After that, a new drawing will be held where we'll pick a new winner. Have fun!
  14. Excluding plywood, what's your favorite wood to work with and why? I find myself cutting a lot of poplar. I really like the way it cuts and finishes. It takes paint really nice and its easy to find at the local home-center.
  15. That's a great idea to give space for everybody to sign the clocks. That will be treasured for sure. Nicely done!
  16. I added a new feature to SSV to make finding the wood you're looking for a bit easier. I buy most of my wood from eBay. I find that it has a great selection and has pretty reasonable prices. So I added a Wood Finder that lists the current auctions on plywoods. You can find it under the Shop pulldown tab in the navigation bar at the top of the screen. If you're looking for a specific species for an intarsia project, I have a huge list of species in the sidebar. Clicking a species will take you to Wood Deals Online where it will list the current auctions for that species. I decided to only list plywoods auctions on SSV since that's what most of us are interested in. The species listings will be handled by Wood Deals Online. I didn't want to double-code the website when WDO does it perfectly well. It just makes maintenance a bit easier. Anyway, I hope it will be of some use to y'all. Enjoy!
  17. That turned out great! Plus you're recycling wood. Nicely done!
  18. Welcome back to the hobby. That set turned out awesome. The pyrography on the lid turned out great. I bet it was very well received. Nicely done!
  19. There's a bunch in the Pattern Library. Look in the Utilitarian album. I know I've designed 3 or 4 myself and I know of a handful of others as well. If there is something specific you're looking for, you can make a request in the Pattern Requests forum. They're pretty easy to design and it would be cool to have a few more designs available.
  20. That turned out beautiful. You did a wonderful job on it. Thanks for sharing.
  21. So did anybody get any new tools for the workshop? I didn't get any new tools per se, but I did get the WorkTunes Hearing Protection with Radio. You can also plug your ipod into it. Boy, those work awesome. Since I listen to audio books/podcasts while I'm working in the shop, these will be work great. I can protect my hearing without missing a beat!
  22. That turned out awesome. I need to go back and do some more NA portraits. I only have the one in the library right now. You did a great job on it. I'm sure it will sell quickly.
  23. It really depends on what you're cutting. Small blades tend to wander a bit, while larger blades do arches and straight lines better. Small blades turn tight corners much better as well. The thicker the wood, you'll want a larger blade. But here are my go-to blades: #3 for most cutting up to 3/4" that require sharp corners. #5 for 3/4" wood or when long straight lines or gentle curves are needed. #9 for hard and thick woods. #1 or #3 spiral blades only for portrait style cuttings that have a lot of organic lines (curvy). I use Flying Dutchman from Mike's Workshop. So if I was to buy 12 dozen blades, here's my shopping list: [*:2bn8qnz5]#3 Scroll Reverse (FD-SR No. 3) - 6dz [*:2bn8qnz5]#5 Scroll Reverse (FD-SR No. 5) - 2dz [*:2bn8qnz5]#9 Scroll Reverse (FD-SR No. 9) - 1dz [*:2bn8qnz5]#3 Spiral Flat/End Scrollsaw Blades (FD-SP-FE No. 3)- 3dz
  24. I got my Secret Santa gift last night! Thank you to my Not-So-Secret Santa , Muleskinnerldb1, for these wonderful ornaments. You did a great job on them. This is fun. I can't wait to see what others have received!
