  1. The Backer board is OSB siding that I found in the rafters of my garage. The plywood is not void free, so not good enough for delicates. And its HEAVY! Thank you everyone for the nice comments.
  2. I have one of the WORX sawhorses that I got for Christmas. I Love It!
  3. This was just meant to be as a pattern for other projects, but I went ahead and finished it. I decided to give it to my nephew as a graduation present. If I do this again, and I mean IF, I will do it completely different and charge a hefty hefty price. The backer board is approximately 28in tall x 38 or 40in wide.

    Speed

I change my speed constantly because of the way the wood and blades "Talks" to me. I just bought my first pegas blades this week and I was cutting on some poplar. With the older blades I was using a speed of 6 or 7 on my DeWalt type 1. New blades same wood, speed of 2. When i turned it down, it cut just as fast and nice as ever. Broke that blade after awhile and put an old blade back in. Speed back up to 6.5. Same wood again. Cutting across grain I will slow it down, and with the grain I speed it up. In other words I guess. It's variable
  5. I am sorry for not explaining the boards. It is a game played with 2 - 2ft x 4ft boards and 8 - 1 pound weighted bags filled with dried corn. (They use corn in the bags because it will break down and add dust to the boards). The spacing between the holes is 30ft and you play with 2 teams of 2. Each team alternates throws behing the front of the board, and whoever gets a score of 21 first wins. Each bag on the board counts as 1 point. Each bag in the hole counts as 3 points. All points are cancelled if other team matches points. This game is played by a lit of people here in the states during holidays and football games. In other words - buy drunk people. I hope this helps somewhat for those who do not know.
  6. Another project with my other son. Just a cornhole set hand painted by myself and middle son. I built and stenciled the boards. He did a decent job, (I have a lot of cleanup painting to do)
  7. I forgot to mention, that whole picture - Frame, Matting, & Scrollwork... Is Freaking AWESOME! I am a big cat lover, domestic cats are ok.
  8. Im a DeWalt fan. Nothing against Ridgid.
  9. I have used a non glare glass. Most angles it looks as if there is no glass. I wish I had a picture, but that project was sold as soon as it was done.
  10. That is cool, It would also look good as a stand alone (on a base of course) without the ring boarder. Just my thought.
  11. I have no clue what the difference is either...lol. I just know that the paper covering that is on there says "polycarbonate". I am not out in the garage now but I will check to see if it says anything else. I have 3 sheets that are about 18 x 24 - different thicknesses that I got when I inherited the saw.
  12. Since I have been off work, I have pestered Bob for patterns constantly to keep me from being bored, and some to supplement my income. As always, his patterns for what I am into right at this moment ( lettering ) have been PERFECT!! Thanks again Bob for all you have done for me. These are the latest - key chains for my friends at ATI Physical Therapy. They are made of Polycarbonate. They cut nicer than I thought they would.
  13. It doesnt have to be the excalibur, I have just heard that that was the way to go. I now have to figure out the money situation and hope my DeWalt will make it awhile longer. Thanks everyone!
  14. I have been doing a lot of scrolling since I have been off work recovering from surgery. I have a DeWalt 788 type 1 saw that is about 16 yrs old. I have had it repaired once through another scroller friend of mine several yrs back. Yesterday as I was cutting I noticed it making some weird noises, (mind you, I am NOT mechanically talented). My question is, if and I mean if! Should I have to replace the saw. I was looking into the excalibur 21" saw. I have looked and looked but to no avail. I keep seeing , King, Jet and another that looks similar to it. What is the difference in these saws? I have heard that excalibur is the saw to have. I absolutely love my DeWalt but I am impressed with tthe way the head tilts on the excalibur. Any help in this manner would be great! Thank You!
  15. The actual pattern is nice, I just wanted simplicity and something to put on my shelf above my saw.
  16. I don't consider myself a Master scroller. I can cut some things decent...lol
  17. I was looking through the pattern gallery and found this, I did modify it and at the last moment, I free handed the border.
  18. I usually just use those to tighten and remove. I cut them loose enough to slip on and off
  19. After posting this this morning, I replaced the insert.
  20. I inherited my DeWalt788 from my brother who had passed away in 2004. He bought a piece of lexan, and cut it oversized and added wooden blocks around the edge. Then he cut a small hole in the middle for the blade to fit through, once that hole worked open from him using spirals, he cut a small square out and force fit a small piece of wood the same thickness of the lexan. The lexan helps the wood slide or glide on the table making it easier to manipulate the wood. I have replaced the wood several times, ( I have a small sandwich bag that has the scrap inserts. ). When the top gets a little harder to manipulate the wood, I just wax it with car wax, The lexan also helps keep the metal tabletop from oxidizing. Plus you can decorate it with stickers
  21. I only cut one side...lol I have become fairly decent at straight lines. All I needed was I little hand sanding with coarse sandpaper and used a straight edge to see if it was straight.
  22. the plywood measures 24" x 17" I used 1/2" construction plywood an low grade 1"x 3" pine boards roughened up the smooth boards and knocked down the plywood. I didn't want to unpack my table saw for 1 cut, so I cut one of the long sides on my scrollsaw.
  23. My future daughter in law asked me to make her and my son this cross for their wedding. She is going to distress the cross and add the " nails and rope"the finished pic is what she showed me and the other is what I came up with. It is unassembled awaiting for her to do the cross. I will assemble everything after she gets her lettering and cross painted. This is not my forte and I am for sure that I won't be doing anymore large projects like this...lol
  24. Marg, these are unstained poplar. I was awaiting stain choice. He ended up choosing the natural stain.
