  1. Here the roadside stands are fine as long as it's just occassional. We have several...........someone who sells knives, flags, etc... at the one near my house. Then there's a major one going into Tulsa where the produce vendors go. As long as it's not a permanent structure. The semi trucks park there on the weekends and leave their personal vehicles there too. Christina
  2. When I get that wet build up in the little cut out areas I use paper shop towels (the blue ones) rolled in a tight wad and bent in half........then I just touch the build up and the paper shop towel absorbs it away..........wicking kind of. But the build up has to be really wet for it to work. I'm sure anything that is very absorbant and is small enough to fit will work. Paint brushes just drive me nuts doing this. I'm sure this probably isn't the correct way but it works for me lol. Christina
  3. Thanks Travis and Blame. I haven't seen it yet but my husband says it looks like new and our neighbor isn't the kind of guy to stiff you for any price. So I'm pretty confident it will be a good one with a little maintenance. I'm sure it needs cleaned and oiled at the very least. If it's as old as I suspect, I may have problems getting parts for it. But it still is a bargain for $20.............I spend more than that a month on Diet Dr Pepper lol. Ben, my husband, makes a lot of noises about wanting to learn but he has the attention span of a 2 year old at times and if he doesn't get immediate satisfaction from something he will never stick with it at all. If he screws up even one project he'll never do it again. The only hobby he has ever stuck with is video games lolol. He has infinite patience with those............I can't stand them. We are total opposites in most things. So most likely it'll be me and my tools............him and his PS2 and 3, XBox and whatever other game systems they come up with! Which is fine with me.........we don't work well together! LOL boy would I love to find that old corvette in the barn! Woohoo now that would be a dream! Christina
  4. My hubby has been helping our elderly neighbor, whose wife fell recently, breaking a hip. They are going to be putting in a wheel chair ramp for her. Well my neighbor was showing my hubby around his shop...........he restores fishing reels and reties rods......makes a few lures.........my hubby noticed he had an old Delta Scroll Saw that looked as if it were brand new. Our neighbor drove over today to complain about not being able to get through to us on the phone, lol.............I'm on the computer! I asked him about it. He said he bought it from a fella that needed some money and it is brand new never had a blade in it...........he paid $20 for it and if I want it that's all he'll take for it. WOOHOO. Bargain! Ben says it's smaller than mine.......mine's a 16" Rigid. Probably needs a bit of maintenance if it's been sitting there as long as I think it has but WOOHOO. I get it payday. I don't know the model or anything but it can't be all that bad for the price. I probably will be asking questions if I can't figure it out on my own lol. Christina
  5. Congrats......that's wonderful. I hope you stay busier than a one armed paper hanger! LOL. Word of mouth really is the best advertisement you can get. Christina
  6. Excellent cutting RealfEZ.................thanks so much for sharing it with us. Christina
  7. Beautiful job on the plaque Linda.............I'm sure your hubby was absolutely delighted with it. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Nope Travis it's not just you.........they're a booger for me too! Christina
  8. Great idea Travis. In fact, lol, I haven't been able to saw for most of the last year because of family crapola which is now over and I have a project that I want to do for my mom that I've been putting off because of all the crapola! So perfect timing for me hehe. Come on folks.........we all got great mom's...........let's show the love! If your mom is no longer with you then make something wonderful for your wife, a spare mom (adopted mom) or a daughter, daugher in law, sister in law, grandmother.......anyone who is a mom and special in your life! Christina
  9. You have a really great booth. I love the way you display everything. Glad you had a great day even if sales were slow. I'm sure you made some valuable contacts and you may get quite a few commissions out of it too. Your work is so beautiful, I don't doubt it at all! Paul sometimes you might not make any money at the show............but receive great commissions out of your contacts. You just never know. I hope that is what will happen in your case too. I think the contacts you make at shows is the most important.............especially as you do more and more shows. You build a reputation that soon follows you everywhere and people will go out of their ways to attend shows when you are there. Also, a little bit of advice, it is my personal experience that the shows aren't necessarily promoted well. So it's in your best interest to promote yourself! When you know you're going to do a particular show start telling everyone and make sure they know the dates and location..........make personal invitations to come see your work. Promote your shows online in your groups too.............never know when group members will be in your area and you could end up meeting some of us in person........which is always fun. Christina
  10. Beautiful cutting Bill........you did a great job on it. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Christina
  11. That does sound great. Did you do it? If so, how did you do......better than in your area I hope. There's not much money in my area either but I do live close to highways where locals as well as tourists drive daily between Tulsa and OKC...........been thinking of making a few things and going to some of the intersections and setting up a roadside stand. Maybe some of my homemade jellies, canned goods, cheeses, arts and crafts. My hubby will do it for me as the heat just gets to me too badly. He used to sell my stuff for me at a couple restaurants and truck stops in Amarillo. My woodburnings did really well there. But doubt if it will be this year. We've had a crappy year with my BIL and kids living with us and I haven't done much of anything. They just moved back to Texas last weekend so maybe I can start learning somemore on my saw now. Christina
  12. Glad you had such a great time. And bringing a saw is a great idea.............a good chance to educate everyone and maybe peak some interest in future scrollers! Christina

  18. I don't have any goodies for my saw lol. I have it bolted to a table, a 2 X 4 under the back legs to tilt it and I use the overhead light in the room. I don't have a blower.........I just blow on it as I go For zero clearance I just use a card.............I keep all those fake credit cards that come in the mail............just tape it on after poking a hole in it. Someday though.... Christina

If you're interested in learning to make patterns..........Travis is going to have a great pattern making class using a free program called GIMP. You should check it out. I hope you'll share pictures of your work.......we love seeing the goodies too. Jump right in and have a great time. Christina
  24. FYI............you can open .pdf files in Paint Shop Pro and in GIMP both. I do this to save on printing with Steve Good's patterns...........works great. You can choose your size, resolution everything..............just drag your .pdf file and drop it into either one. And then print. Here's a screen shot of the box that opens when you drop it in PSP. And here's a screen shot of the box that opens when you drop it in GIMP. Christina
  25. LOL I'm sorry Travis I guess I'm a bit on the slow side too............I don't get it either. But your class sounds great and I look forward to it. Christina
