  1. I asked my hubby to take pictures for me............he said he would.......yeah right, I'll believe it when he picks the camera up lol. He says mostly what we have out here is "fence oak".........whatever the heck that might be. He also said white oak. I don't think he really knows just is making like he does lol.........that's my hubby! I think he says that because most of the trees are small. Christina
  2. Yep this one I know! We have loads of these on our property.............but they are all small trees so far. I love the wood........so pretty. Christina
  3. Wow that wood is beautiful............but sounds like a pain in the whose it's to use! Thanks again..........I'm enjoying this series immensely too. Christina
  4. Another one I've never seen! You are on a roll Blame lol. Pretty wood. Christina
  5. This is one I've never seen............what cool looking bark! Thanks Blame. It's really beautiful wood too. Christina
  6. Ooooh that's pretty wood. Thanks so much for all you do Blame! Christina
  7. You are going to educate me on trees yet Blame lol. Thank you so much! I love this tree..........I have seen them before but had no idea what it was. The leaves are almost like maple aren't they? All this that you are educating me on makes me want to try to get some of each one of them to scroll with lol. Thank you again. Christina
  8. Thanks for the great info Blame..............gorgeous trees and love the grain! I've seen those leaves before but can't remember if it was here or not lol. I agree that this would make beautiful furniture. And I bet Clayton is right too........it would be wonderful used in Intarsia. Christina
  9. Thanks once again for the great info Blame. I think we have Shumard, Southern and Scarlett Oaks on our property. Looks right anyway..............I'll have to wait until later this year to be able to identify them right lol. They're a bit on the bare side right now. Christina
  10. I wish I had the equipment to be able to cut my own lumber. I usually buy hardwood and BB both on ebay from 2 sellers.........they're pretty reasonable and there is nothing close to me. I think it would be awesome to be able to use some of my own trees. I have 10 wooded acres. None of the trees are particularly large since there are so many.......it needs thinned out dramatically! But if I could, I would thin them out and let others get bigger. Small lumber is good too lololol. Thanks for sharing with us Travis. Christina
  11. Thanks Mediaboy...........I'm sure you will learn alot and it will be fun to hear about your experience! Clayton...........I have a tendency to be the same way. As long as I can sell enough to supply my habit it's all good lolol. Thanks for sharing both of you! Christina
  12. So true so true............thanks for the reminder Travis. I've been going through the gallery too and there are some projects I've never seen announced. So take some time to look around folks............you won't be sorry! Christina
  13. Hi and welcome Theozz.............I live in Jennings, OK 119 miles from you lol. I know you'll enjoy it here.......everyone is really great. I hope you will share some of your work with us.............we love to see the goodies! Thanks for introducing yourself..........we love meeting new friends. Christina
  14. Great saw Deb! Yep, just like in cars, looks don't make it run lolol. I actually prefer this green over the (ewww) yellow lol. Thanks for sharing it with us. Christina
  15. That is a great way of looking at it. I hope you have a really great time and are successful too. But for some folks it's an extra income and much needed so we try to cover all the bases. It's really great to share information and tips...........so I hope you will share how your show goes when you return. Christina
  16. I saw this in the Library..........absolutely awesome project. I love it! I love geeky things like this too. It's very unique and imaginative..........and very creative! Thanks for sharing it with us. Christina

Excellent cutting Bill..............I just love the great energy the woodgrain adds to this cutting. You chose really well! I love Steve Good's pattern too...........he does some awesome work. Your frame is pretty terrific too. Thanks so much for sharing your work with us. I really enjoyed seeing it. Christina
  18. Great pattern Travis..........I love it! Now we're cooking! Christina
  19. That really is so true Travis! It's always best to have a good supply of cheap stuff that's easy and inexpensive to make. You will find that you will sell loads of these things before you sell one of your more expensive time consuming projects. Most of the smaller stuff is bought on impulse.........impulse buyers are your friends! Have a few showy pieces too...........that will attract attention and make them remember you. You never know when that special order will come in. Mostly have a great time...........if you have a good time it shows and people will be more attracted to your booth too! Make your space attractive....try not to clutter. If you have too much it detracts from your display and no one can really see anything. You can always replenish supplies as you sell them. Have lots of business cards to hand out too........even if they don't buy at the time they may call you another time for a special order. When I did craft shows I had drawings too...........I made small things for prizes. I had them put their names on pieces of paper and told them the drawing is in 30 minutes or whatever............that brings them back. Then I drew names and gave out the prizes then and there. Also you can ask if they would like to be kept informed when you have new things.........get email addresses that way for advertising. Lots of things you can do and think about lol. Christina
  20. Hi and welcome Bill! I agree with Travis........if it weren't for the internet and the forums I wouldn't have anyone to share woodworking with either...........and I'm a new scroller too! Don't worry about feeling useless........you aren't! When you are posting replies you are contributing...........share your work and experiences.......offer tips or just say hello, thanks for the patterns, tips, advice. That's what communities do! And along the way I'm sure you will find loads of new and interesting information........and loads of stuff to learn! Thanks so much for introducing yourself. Jump right in and have a great time. Everyone here is very nice, friendly and helpful. Christina
  21. Naw Rufus it can't be horrible! Come on, we can't wait to see it! Here's my first St Patrick's Day pattern.........lol. Shamrock...........boy is he celebrating! Christina
  22. Thanks so much for sharing everyone! I think it's really important to research your area............not an easy thing to do but it's very beneficial to anyone wanting to do the shows. If there are craft shows in your area go to them..........look for work similiar to yours and see how it's priced and pay attention to the booths.........do they seem to have quite a few lookers and if so are those lookers buying? What are they buying? What is the price range, etc... I think that will tell you more than anything what will sell best in your area and how much you should charge. Too high of prices will mean no sales...........but too low of prices mean you are working for nothing. You have to find a happy median in there somewhere. I'd be interest to know the results of everyone's shows too. How did you do? Did you have a lot of traffic and if so how many were just lookers and asking questions as opposed to buyers? Do you think you will get repeat business.........or do you think most of it was impulse buying? Lots of questions that could really help anyone new trying to get ready for shows! Christina
  23. Wow that is beautiful wood! I may have to try to find some of this myself. Thank you so much again Blame...........you're a treasure! Christina
  24. I like to stack cut if I'm cutting a set of ornaments, etc... for a gift. When I do it I've only ever used the hot glue method.....that's what I had handy lol. Christina
  25. OMGoodness Travis that was a close call.........you were one lucky guy in that moment in time! I would have gone home too lol. As for the brads and nails thru the fingers and hand.............OUCH OUCH OUCH.....that's one I hope I never do. I was carving one time and the knife slipped and cut the palm of my hand almost to the bone in places........never want to do that again either! I thought I would never heal over that one. And it's really miserable if you can't use one hand. I learned a valuable lesson...........cut away from your body! I have a tendency to want to cut the wood like I'm peeling a potato! Christina
