  1. My saw is smack dab in the middle of my living room...........in front of the air conditioner. I bought an old kitchen table and it's my work bench. I have one of those huge barn/shed buildings but it's too dang hot in the summer and too dang cold in the winter...............and too dang big to warm or cool properly! So....I work in the living room. I like it there too since my computer is there..........stereo, tv...........dogs, bird, rats.......phone lololol. I can only sit for so long too.......bad back and hips.........so I can break freqently and lay down on the couch when I need to. It's the perfect place roflmbo. Nooooo it doesn't make much of a mess..........mmmm hmmmm, yeah right! I have two shop vacs and still there is sawdust (and bird seed) everywhere. And yes I use them! One is hooked up to my saw and the other is next to it. Christina
  2. I sure wish I was in a position to help..............such a worthy cause! My husband was just laid off from his job so I can't financially help. And as a new scroller I don't have a lot I can help with. I am a patternmaker however and would be most happy to help if you need any beginner patterns.............just give me an idea of what you would like and I will do my best to make them for you. Sorry it can't be more. Christina
  3. Hi Chris......welcome! You'll really like it around here...........great folks. Christina

  8. Beautiful work Blame............I love them both. You did a great job on them. I think the candle holder is a pattern from Steve Good's site........he has some awesome ones.............this one looks like one of his. Thanks so much for sharing them with us. And thank you Travis for reminding everyone how important it is to respect copyrights! Christina

  11. I've only done a few gifts at this point. But I use my woodburner and burn my signature, the date, and occasionally a small message. For instance, my father in law passed away last May and I woodburned a memorial plaque for every member of the family..............bibles, sobbing angels, jesus, etc... On the back I wrote "In Loving Memory of Tom Brumley (my father in law) and his birth and death dates and a small bible verse about loss. I wanted to create a memory to make everyone smile everytime they read it. So it really depends on what the item is, how large, whether it's for sale or a gift, etc... I think if I were to do sale items I would create a small logo with my name, address and phone # and print it on a tiny label or use a branding iron. Or possibly I would just sign it with my signature and the date. I guess I won't know until the time comes lol. Christina
  12. I'm new to scrolling so I generally use the same finish I've always used for my woodburning........either spray on acrylic or waterbased polyurethane. Low odor is a big thing for me because I have very severe asthma and really hate wearing a mask. Christina
  13. Travis I'm just learning to scroll so I mostly have relied on what I've read on the different forums. I've also fallen in love with spirals..........I can't seem to make anything but designer firewood with other blades but the spirals are a dream. I've heard some say to use a torch...........that's too scary for me lol. I either sandwich my wood between layers of thin cardboard or just sand. I enjoy the sanding but I haven't done anything very fragile yet either. I have also seen the new sanding blades for scrollsaws and am wondering if anyone has tried them. Seems like a great idea to me............sorta like a mini drum sander I guess. Christina
  14. Great recipe Handi lololol...........LOVE IT! Christina
  15. It took me 2 hours to load video 1.............I'm on dialup unfortunately! But I have to say Handi............it was well worth it. You made an excellent video and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I will have to do the second one later as I have a couple errands to run.............but I'm sure looking forward to it. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos and sharing them with us. Christina
  16. Beautiful work Linda............thanks so much for sharing it with us. Christina
  17. Beautiful Linda.............you did a great job on it. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Christina
  18. Yep it helps loads. I make the biggest part of my gifts because............not only do I think handmade gifts are the best...........but I live on a limited budget and can't afford to buy alot of gifts. So working on them all year gives me plenty of fun things to do, I can really tailor the gift to the person, and at Christmas and birthdays I have loads done. I also like to make things to donate to charity............like slipper socks, warm hats, toys, etc... And that requires a lot of time too. Graybeard lolol.....yep you are hooked my friend. Doesn't take much does it?! Christina
  19. Hi Everyone..........thanks for the warm welcome. I don't think a cat would be a good idea though lololol...........my Shepard and Rottweiller would eat it! Especially the Shepard, she kills anything smaller than she is! I do love cats too though lol. I'm a critter kinda gal! The more the merrier in my opinion. Handi............yes I'll take a look. I can use all the help I can get! Thanks again.........I'm really glad to be here. Christina
  20. Hi Clayton............glad to see you here my friend. I can tell you folks this is one talented guy! Christina
  21. WOW! Gorgeous work everyone. There are some extremely talented people on this forum. I looked at everything and just drooled lolololol. Thanks so much for sharing your work with us everyone............I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it all. Christina
  22. LOL Travis.............I did the same thing. It's so much fun to watch their faces............they get sooo excited! And I usually start right after Christmas on gifts for the next Christmas. As I get them done I put them in plastic bags (grocery bags) to keep the dust off, and label them and put them in boxes. So ordinarily I have loads of stuff done, at my leisure, when Christmas roles around. Or birthdays for that matter. Christina
  23. LOL Gray, I'm sure they love them or they wouldn't ask for them. I don't happen to live near my family and I'm disabled and don't get around much so I really don't have any friends either............except online. I live waaaaay out in the boonies! If my mom were around close I would never get to give anything to anyone except her.............it's always been that way. Everytime I make and afghan she ends up with it some how or another. lolol. Christina
  24. Happy Birthday DAdams............I hope your special day is the very best. Christina
  25. I had been thinking I would love to get a scroll saw for making some yard art and miniature furniture originally. And I was talking to my mom, who is a wood carver, and telling her about a couple ideas I had. About a week later I received this gigantic box in the mail...................a scrollsaw, books, wood, carving tools, etc... Well I lived in a pretty tiny little house and we barely had room to move about............especially since I had four big dogs at the time lololol. So I couldn't saw................no place to do it at all. Then I bought some land in Oklahoma and now I have the room and am slowly but surely learning to scroll. When I first got the saw I decided to see what I could find about it online................boy did I hit paydirt lol. I found the forums, started making patterns and was hooked before I ever used my saw. Christina
