  1. I always wear a respirator and have my dust collector turned on when using the scrollsaw and other woodworking machines, especially the planer. I don't like to breathe in the dust they produce, plus I don't like the fact that the dust from these machines are a leading cause for certain types of cancer and other breathing problems. For a small investment into a good quality respirator, you get so much protection, I just can't see why people take the chance. Len
  2. Dan, In the past I've used Spar marine varnish, or, a clear drying epoxy. Both stand up to the weather, and will last a fairly long time. None of them are going to last forever, but, if you recoat them about every three years or so, they will probably last longer than the person you made them for. Len
  3. Dick, at $85-$100 you'd definitely be pricing your goods beyond range of what people will actually pay. For pieces like this that has so many cuts to it, I generally stack cut them. By doing so, you've only got the amount of time it takes to cut one out invested in the project. But, you have three or four copies to sell if stack cut. So, by doing the stack cutting, you don't need to charge as much money for one because you have three or four of them to sell. Len
  4. Terrylee, I'm sorry to say this, but, personally I wouldn't be offering this for sale as one of my projects. You've done an exemplary job of bringing this pattern to life, but, you framing skills have lowered the value of the project. The cutting and the frame look more than all right, but, the quarter round border has not been cut and placed properly. If you could cut and match the corners of the quarter round better, then I think you should be able to get top dollar, but if you can't get a better match up on the corners, then you will only get about half of what it's actually worth. If you fix what I've mentioned, I'd think that you could get $35-$40 dollars for it. One other thing I'd like to mention to you, just because you get the frame for free, that doesn't mean that you have to give it away. Len
  5. Nice Marg, I really like the looks of the fan that has the colored added to it, what did you use for the infill? Len
  6. Marg, you forgot astonishing. Len
  7. Gator, that's an amazing bit of cutting. Len
  8. Dan, could you please repost the picture of the Bulls, it's hard to critique something that I can't see. Not that there's going to be any negative postings about your work, it's always been pleasant to look at and usually well done. Len
  9. Hang in there Thomas, don't give up to easily. If your getting frustrated with the cutting, set it aside and get back to it later. Try cutting something that you enjoy, when it's finished return to this one and cut for just a while. Then set it aside until you cut something else again, after doing this several times you'll notice that the ferris wheel is almost done. I have done a couple of cuttings this way, I didn't want to give up on them, but I just couldn't stand to cut any more of subject, By setting them aside, I finally finished them. Len
  10. Smudger, if the EX21 is ''just slightly'' out of your price range, I think it'd worth the wait until you save up the extra that you'd need to purchase EX. It will probably be the last scroll saw, that you'll ever need to buy. Len
  11. Impressive Kevin, you sure can crank them out, and they all look fantastic. Len
  12. Gator, I was thinking of the, Lord Won't You Buy Me A Mercedes Benz tune. Sander, thanks for sharing the pattern with us, it's a beaut. Len
  13. Two beautiful cuttings Gator, I'll have to check out Charles Dearings pattern selection. To me there's a big difference in the pics of two shown, I prefer the one on the left. Which one do the rest of you choose, or, do you even notice a difference? Len
  14. Beautiful cutting, and the frame looks nice also. Len
  15. Smudger, what brands are offered for sale in the UK? I don't know if any NA brands are available to you, that's why I ask about UK brands available. Hopefully, you'll get some helpful replies, from some UK members who knows what is actually available to you. Len
  16. Paul, personally I don't think that you should paint it, you'd be better off just to treat it with WD-40 for the first coating, treat both sides and edges. After doing that you wipe off any excess, then spray the top with metal protector to prevent rust. I use a silicone type spray to clean or dress the cast iron surfaces of my table saw and bandsaw plus the drillpress and other metal surfaces. I respray them once a year, and just consider it regular maintenance like any woodworking shop would. Len
  17. Hey guys, did you ever stop and think that your wives are only allowing you to buy new saws, because, they want to get you out of their hair. Len.
  18. Holy smokes, what a cutting, you definitely did an exceptional job of cutting this masterpiece out. Len
  19. Well done. Len
  20. Paul, what is the overall size of this beautiful cutting? Len
  21. LarryEA, are you serious? Personally, I don't think that there is any fonts, that are easier to cut than these two are. What font are you looking for, is it an easy one to work with when making patterns? Len
  22. You'll be impressed with how nice it is to cut on an Excaliber, I traded up a few years ago and have been a happy scroller ever since. Oh yeah, you won't notice any vibration on the new EX21, good luck with it once it arrives. Len
  23. Try out the Bamboo system, it's put out by Wacom and it's very easy to use. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be using it, because, I've got no patience for frigging around with computer stuff. Len
  24. Bob, you do realize that by putting your name on that copy, you are more or less claiming that you made and own the pattern. I don't think that is right, if you want to touch up a pattern, that's fine, but you don't put your name to it. Len
  25. Stu, do you mean Sawdust Junkie? Len
